Senior Mechanical Packaging Engineer

At Raytheon Applied Signal Technology the dynamic and diverse develop demanding, trusted, superior solutions to make the world a safer place, and we are looking for a senior mechanical engineer for our Sunnyvale, California location to develop, integrate, test, and support advanced high-capacity systems that process modern high-speed communications for the U.S. intelligence community.

You will work as a technical contributor on cutting-edge technology for RAST, which develops systems to provide integrated sensor and signal processing products in support of intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance that protect your family, your nation, and enhance global security, while in your free time you can explore the many wonders of California. You must have a solid background in the development of creative mechanical solutions for standard and custom electronic packages using AutoCAD and feature base parametric modeling tools such as Solidworks; the ability to utilize thermal design practices to analyze and develop mechanical solutions for challenging thermal environments; the ability to utilize structural design practices to analyze and develop mechanical solutions for environments that include shock and vibrational conditions; work effectively in multi-disciplinary teams (engineering, operations, contract services, customer); the ability to develop and maintain mechanical engineering drawings; have strong communication skills; and use technical expertise to provide imaginative, thorough, practicable and organizationally aligned solutions to a wide range of mechanical packaging challenges.

Required Skills:
  • Minimum of six years of experience in mechanical analysis and development
  • Strong electro-mechanical assemblies design background
  • Ability to perform thermal design and analysis
  • Ability to perform structural FEA for static, vibration and shock loading
  • Ability to develop and manage to task level project cost and schedules
  • Working knowledge of both Military and Industrial specifications
  • Familiarity with EMI, EMC, and reliability specifications
  • Working experience with SolidWorks and AutoCAD tools
  • Working experience with thermal and structural analysis tools
  • Experience providing reliable mechanical cost/schedule estimates for development activities
  • Leadership experience in working with teams in design, implementation, integration, and test activities; including planning, estimating, and managing execution to meet schedule and cost targets
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team environments
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Top Secret Security Clearance within 1 year of start date
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Desired Skills:
  • Active TS/SCI within the last two years
  • Working experience with thermal and structural analysis tools
  • Working experience with military avionics.
  • Experience with aircraft integration and airborne environmental requirements analysis and verification

Required Education:
  • Bachelor of Science, Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
Desired Education:
  • Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent

This position requires a U.S. person or the ability to obtain an Export Authorization from the appropriate government agency for non-U.S. persons.
