Senior Mechanical Engineer

Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems is seeking a Sr. Mechanical Engineer II to support multiple programs in El Segundo, CA. The selected candidate will be responsible for the design and analysis of mechanisms used in electro-optical sensors. The position requires an understanding of mechanisms components, such as bearings, motors, gears and position sensors. The engineer in this position must be able to help develop requirements, lead trade studies and evaluate supplier proposals and data. The position requires strong CAD and geometric tolerancing (GD&T) skills and the ability to work with cross-functional engineering teams involving optics, structural analysis, thermal management and precision mechanical mounting. The selected engineer is responsible for understanding the design requirements, coordinating mechanical design, preparation of design reviews, presentation of the engineering to Raytheon management as well as customers.

Required Skills:
  • Minimum of 6 years of experience performing mechanical design
  • Working knowledge of mechanisms components for airborne or space systems, such as motors, bearings, gearheads and position feedback devices
  • Expertise with commercial CAD software, such as Creo, Solidworks, or CATIA
  • Experience with aircraft or space hardware design, build and test
  • Geometric Tolerancing (GD&T)
  • Expertise with MS Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with ability to convey highly technical material in a clear and concise format to a general audience
  • Ability to obtain a DoD Security Clearance and SSBI
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Desired Skills:
  • Knowledge of precision bearing processing, lubrication and tribology
  • Knowledge of mechanisms analysis software (such as Creo Mechanism, ADAMS)
  • Possess an existing SSBI and DoD Top Secret clearance
  • Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace

Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree (BA, BS) in Mechanical Engineering or related field from accredited university.

Desired Education:
Master’s degree (MS) in Mechanical Engineering or related field from accredited university.
