Senior Engineering Technician

Serve as a Field Technology/Test Range Senior Technician to support field and laboratory testing in support of the Air Force Civil Engineering Center (AFCEC) Research and Development Test and Evaluation (RDT&E) programs, primarily in the area of Technologies for Airfield Protection and Installation Resiliency to include support for the Test Range infrastructure and support for projects related to laboratory and field research.

The work will require operator licensing of an assortment of heavy equipment such as: JLG Man Lift; 6K, 10K, 15K forklifts; dozers; heavy duty trucks; and front-end loaders. License or experience operating cranes is a plus.

Knowledge and experience framing metal studs both interior and exterior; concrete forming and pouring; ability to skillfully operate and work with a wide variety of hand and power tools associated with the trades; ability to read and work from blueprints, diagrams, or sketches; plan construction projects by studying blueprints; confirming instructions with technicians, engineers and subcontractors.

Competent in signaling and rigging, perform fabrication, concrete and carpentry work in the field when erecting test structures and support articles for testing. Related experience in layout, fabrication, assembly, erection, and rigging of steel or concrete structural research modular(s) for instrumenting and testing a plus. Knowledge of welding and field instrumentation techniques and components a plus.

Duties also include but are not limited to:

  • Responsible for the use and care of heavy duty equipment, tools and personal protective equipment.
  • Executing complex test procedures communicating effectively verbally and in writing with project team members.
  • Following instructions from Lead Engineers and Lead Test and Evaluation personnel.
  • Travel as required.
  • Other duties as required.

Education and Experience:
  • Candidate must possess High School Diploma or GED Equivalent.
  • Two (2) years of college courses or vocational training in area of specialty and seven (7) years of experience or any equivalent combination of education/experience for a total of nine (9) years.
  • Ideal candidate will possess the demonstrated ability to take technical information provided in various forms, and levels of complexity, and develop associated task and work plans to build designed apparatus and test articles, and also lead crews to accomplish assigned tasks and work plans.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform assigned work activities safely.
Must have an active Secret security clearance at the time of hire.

Essential Functions
Physical Requirements
  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require filing, typing, and reading from a computer screen.
  • Must have sufficient mobility, included but not limited to: bending, reaching, turning and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner.
  • There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work, walking moderate to long distances may be required.
  • Must be able to lift and carry up to fifty (50) pounds.
  • Work may involve working at height using safety harnessing and lifelines.
Work Environment
  • Generally work is in the field subjected to normal and inclement weather for the locale, but can involve inside or outside work depending on task.
  • An inside environment may be a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting) or in a test laboratory.
  • Outside work may include various environmental conditions including warm and cold climates.
  • Needs to be able to work well with co-workers, customer, and all levels of management.
  • Potential hazards on job include examining energetic materials experiment results, but no unusual environmental conditions. Use of safety and personal protective equipment (PPE) will be required during specific tasks.
  • Work site is located in a two story office building and surrounding outdoor test ranges, at Tyndall AFB, FL.
Equipment and Machines
  • Ability to operate forklift, heavy equipment, and heavy duty trucks, and tools.
  • Ability to operate office equipment such as a personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other equipment including desk supplies and other work related tools as required.
  • Regular hours will be between Monday - Friday 7:00am - 4:00pm.
  • Regular attendance of scheduled hours is extremely important, but not critical, except for deadlines and meetings.
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines.
  • Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements
Other Essential Functions
  • Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers.
  • Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others.
  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner.
  • Independent personal transportation to office or work site is required. Travel to and from customer’s locations and the test fields may be required to support projects. This may involve airline travel.
  • In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary.
  • When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a US Department of Defense Security Clearance.
  • Must favorably pass a National Agency Check with Local Agency and Credit Checks (NACLC).
