Senior Database Administrator

Job Description:
Raytheon is seeking a Senior Database Administrator. The Senior Database Administrator will be part of a team responsible for supporting the development and maintenance of a custom IT network. The primary responsibility for this role is to ensure that all database solutions are designed and maintained appropriately. Additionally, this role will assist the team with administrating and monitoring the IT network.

Main Duties:
•Support Enterprise level Database applications including Microsoft SQL (All prevailing versions) and associated management and monitoring tools required to manage a large IT network.
•Support the management of incidents, problems and changes to the service efficiently and effectively following the agreed and documented processes.
•Monitor the performance, capacity, security and tuning of the database.
•Perform complex system management and SQL application performance, troubleshooting and tuning including using debugging TSQL, PowerShell and scripting tools as necessary to manage estate.
•Implement high availability solutions like Clustering, Mirroring etc. and SQL Extended events.
•Maintain security and integrity controls.
•Manage and implement updates and patches as and when required.
•Harden SQL databases using industry best practices, including STIGs.
•Use SQL Server Analysis Services (SSAS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSAS), & SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS) for troubleshooting and report development.
•Develop and promote and SQL Standards and Monitoring for IT development and initiatives.
•Carry out a program of daily/weekly/monthly checks and develop approaches to improve, streamline and automate the health status of the environment.
•Effectively manage deliverables: Incidents, Requests, Small Works Projects and Technical leadership of major implementation and upgrade projects.
•Ensure backup schedules & data retention and period maintenance are aligned.
•Plan, agree and participate in scheduled Disaster Recovery exercises.
•Assist the team with system administration and maintenance.

Required Technical Skills:
•Deep and detailed experience of managing SQL databases.
•Experience of designing and supporting enterprise systems that leverage SQL (All prevailing versions) and SQL application performance tuning and troubleshooting.
•Experience of implementing high availability solutions like Clustering, Mirroring etc. and SQL Extended event.
•Experience of troubleshooting complex SQL issues, debugging code, and resolving enterprise level issues for backbone data storage solutions.
•Experience of developing, promoting and monitoring SQL Standards for IT developments and initiatives.
•Background in Systems Administration using Windows desktop and server operating systems (7/2008R2 and newer);
•Experience with various computing hardware and software platforms, including servers, workstations, and numerous COTS software applications;
•Ability to travel (CONUS) up to 10% of the time.
•A current Top Secret/SCI security clearance is required.
•Must be able to attain and maintain a DoD 8570 IAT Level II certification (CISSP or Security+ preferred).

Desired Technical Skills:
•Experience installing, configuring, hardening, and maintaining Window servers, performing software installations and upgrades to operating systems and COTS applications;
•Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, including GPO management, DNS, OU management, etc.
•Understanding of Active Directory Site and Services, Replication and Domain/Forest hierarchies.
•Experience hardening Windows platforms via GPOs using STIGs or other system hardening baselines.
•Thorough understanding of basic network engineering fundamentals, including: OSI layers, IP addressing, sub-netting, TCP/IP stack, VLANs, DHCP, etc.
•Experience with typical VMware products (vSphere, vCenter, ESXi) and overall virtualization implementations
•Experience using and troubleshooting Windows Server Update Services (WSUS);
•Knowledge of Service Management disciplines engagement, design, delivery and maintenance lifecycles in a high technology or IT services domain.

•Excellent relationship skills - the ability to build positive relationships with both technical and business personnel.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills to interact with a diverse user community in quick-response situations.
•Understanding of the concepts of Information Assurance.

Education: Bachelor's Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics and minimum of five (5) years of prior relevant experience. Experience may be substituted for education.
