Senior Assurance Engineer

For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for a Senior Assurance Engineer to develop tools for monthly and quarterly data retrieval, perform data analysis, generate reports, clarify issues and conduct follow-up for both the Institutional Tracking System and Metrics Management. You will provide technical subject matter expertise and support related to the Institutional and Senior Management Dashboards. You will interface with a broad level of managers across the Laboratory. In addition, you will work with LLNL assurance managers, engineers and scientists, and the Livermore Field Office using analytical tools to provide feedback on organizational metric performance. This position is in the Management Assurance System (MAS) Organization.

Essential Duties
- Define and deliver technical interpretations of the Laboratory’s performance issues and develop new approaches to resolve them assuring the success and image of the Laboratory.
- Conduct innovative studies by developing analysis methods and using statistical tools to characterize, measure, and trend metric performance; report on performance in accordance with metric periodicity.
- Analyze performance data and metrics evaluating tangible and intangible factors to deliver information suitable for executive management action.
- Serve as an expert point of contact for development of institutional and senior management metrics.
- Work with responsible owners to ensure development of corrective actions for underperforming metrics and communicate results to senior management.
- Train support staff on basic data retrieval.
- Mentor other assurance engineers.
- Revise, and as needed, establish Contractor Assurance procedure documents and training material.
 Perform other duties as assigned.

- Bachelor’s degree in engineering, computer, physical or biological sciences, or equivalent level of education and experience
- Expert knowledge and significant experience analyzing and extracting data using appropriate statistical applications and tools; expert in use of Excel.
- Signaificant experience successfully working with IT staff and implementing IT systems at an institutional level and with multiple users.
- Experience successfully mentoring of peers and interfacing with LLNL management and external customers in an environment highly resistant to change.
- Expert communication, collaboration, and facilitation skills to present and explain technical information, and provide advice to senior management.

Desired Qualifications
- Working knowledge of the LLNL Issues Tracking System with expertise in Tableau  and QuickScore.
- Knowledge of contractor assurance principles, their application, and best practices, DOE regulatory guides, orders and standards associated with the industry and an understanding of their potential impact when applied to the Laboratory.
- Knowledge of LLNL operational, programmatic, or science and technology efforts.

Pre-Employment Drug Test:  External applicant(s) selected for this position will be required to pass a post-offer, pre-employment drug test.  This includes testing for use of marijuana as Federal Law applies to us as a Federal Contractor.

Security Clearance:  This position requires a Department of Energy (DOE) Q-level clearance.

If you are selected, we will initiate a Federal background investigation to determine if you meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information or matter. In addition, all L or Q cleared employees are subject to random drug testing.  Q-level clearance requires U.S. citizenship.  If you hold multiple citizenships (U.S. and another country), you may be required to renounce your non-U.S. citizenship before a DOE L or Q clearance will be processed/granted.

Note:   This is a Career Indefinite position. Lab employees and external candidates may be considered for this position.
