Scientist Engineer/Biosecurity

ECS is seeking a Scientist Engineer/ Biosecurity to work in our Arlington, VA office.  Please Note: This position is contingent upon contract award.

Job Description:
The candidate will provide scientific, engineering, and technical assistance (SETA) support to the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency. The candidate is requested to support a program within the Biological Technologies Office that seeks to develop a bio-surveillance platform that will extract bacteria from complex samples, query them to determine their pathogenic behavior, and then perform single cell omic analysis when pathogenic behavior is detected.

Highly qualified candidates would have experience in the extraction and culturing of bacteria from environmental or clinical samples, the study of pathogenic bacteria including their acquisition of pathogenic traits, and modern omics techniques.
Candidate must have a security clearance sufficient to allow unsupervised entrance and work within the DARPA facility.

Occasional travel of up to week’s duration away from DARPA HQ, Arlington, VA, may be required.

Required Skills:

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • Must have an active/ ability to obtain a Secret Clearance.
  • Ph.D. in Diagnostic Microbiology, Clinical Chemistry, Bioanalytical Chemistry or other field relevant to the analysis of pathogenicity in bacteria and, moreover, have a sufficient breadth of expertise to assess technologies across a range of applications.
  • Excellent organization, communication, and coordination are required
  • Candidate must readily handle tasks ranging from briefing support to general administration.
  • Candidate must have a security clearance sufficient to allow unsupervised entrance and work within the DARPA facility.

Desired Skills:

  • Previous experience in providing direct support to a DARPA Program Manager, in the development of a new start program, and in the subsequent support of the source selection process.
