Safety Officer – Rotary Wing / Scientist and Engineer Level 2, Test Engineer, at the 413 FLTS

This position requires an individual with motivation and initiative to support developmental flight testing in a dynamic environment. Works with a multi-discipline team to develop and test new capabilities for the US Air Force on current and future rotary wing aircraft. 

Note: this position supports Duke Field but the employee may sit at Eglin.

Responsibilities:

  • Attends test planning meetings, technical interchange meetings, and system design reviews.
  • Acts as liaison to the Wing Safety Office for rotary wing aircraft test programs.
  • Provides safety advice and assistance to military directors.
  • Assists in the development of test scenarios and profiles.
  • Conducts test hazard analyses to identify and quantify risk factors.
  • Works with test engineers to design risk mitigation procedures.
  • Writes safety annexes to support test approval and test execution.
  • Coordinates test strategy, methods and objectives with safety office personnel.
  • Develops safety review board presentations for senior decision makers.
  • Travels to offsite locations as required and other duties as assigned.
  • U.S. Citizenship is required.
  • Active Secret Clearance is required with ability to maintain a Secret Clearance.
  • Bachelor’s degree and 1 - 3 years of experience related to test and evaluation of rotary wing aircraft.Six years of applicable technical experience may be substituted for the BS degree (total 7 years) or four years’ experience with an Associate’s Degree (total 5 years).
  • Must be able to work as part of an integrated test team.
  • Must have military flight experience and be familiar with formal safety processes.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate orally and possess technical writing skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office applications is required.
  • Must be able to work on and around aircraft during ground operations and testing.
