Research and Development Technician Manager in our Clearfield, UT location.

Northrop Grumman Innovation Systems is currently recruiting for a Research and Development Technician Manager in our Clearfield, UT location

The successful candidate will be responsible for leading a group of Research and Development Engineer Technicians in the AS Core Technology Group to develop and implement complex composite fabrication and assembly tasks on a wide range of products and programs.We are seeking a highly motivated individual with experience in composite structures and assemblies for military, launch, commercial aircraft and compartmentalized programs. The candidate should have working knowledge and experience with various composite manufacturing techniques including hand lay-up; fiber placement; automated stiffener forming; automated case wrap, filament winding; machining; and assembly. Responsibilities will include, but are not limited to managing and supervising the safe execution and promotion of tasks required for research and development and support of production programs. Additional responsibilities include reviewing, prioritizing, coordinating work requests and assigning work within the department.

This is a day shift position (Mon-Fri)however, there may be times when weekend or off shift support will be necessary. There is considerable latitude for pro-active and independent action and decision making.

Preferred Skills:

Current and active secret clearance with program access

  • Experience in lean manufacturing

  • Experience working in aerospace manufacturing facilities operating on a 24/7 schedule

  • Extensive experience working as a Process Engineer associated with startup and sustaining programs

  • In depth knowledge of composite manufacturing techniques including hand lay-up; fiber placement; automated stiffener forming; automated case wrap; filament winding; machining; and rocket motor / case assembly manufacturing processes

  • Experience in training both in lecture and laboratory settings

Basic Requirements:

  • Minimum of 10 years of related composites manufacturing experience.

  • BS/MS in Aerospace, Mechanical or related Engineering

  • Knowledge of composite materials and manufacturing processes

  • Must have good oral and written communication skills

  • Manage a group of highly motivated Engineering Technicians performing a wide spectrum of assignments:

    • Responsible for: Timecards / Performance reviews / Employee development / Budget / Training

    • Delegate work to ensure a level workload and tasks are appropriate for expertise

    • Provide technical direction on projects review and provide feedback on engineering work plans and work scope to achieve the desired goal

    • Determine optimal work location(s)

    • Ensure proper tools and materials are available and used appropriately

    • Align Engineering Technicians skill sets / talents with associated work assignments

    • Establish and manage metrics for effective group management

    • Manage the procurement of supplies for the Technology organization

    • Manage and coordinate technology schedules with Operations and Production Control

    • Ensure facilities are clean, well-organized and safely operated

    • Manage capital projects to improve AS facilities including implementation of new & developing technologies

    • Demonstrated ability to recruit, manage and develop ateam of high achieving technicians

    • Willing and able to perform hands-on as demand dictates

  • Ability to translate department goals to promote and enhance company objectives

  • Ability to work in a fast paced dynamic environment as part of a multi-discipline team

  • Excellent problem solving skills are a must as well asdemonstrated experience in leadership of teams inresolving complex manufacturing issues

  • Ability to prepare compelling presentations and provide regular status

  • Proficient in word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, etc. (i.e. Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
