Remote Sensing Scientist

Job Number: R0068683

Remote Sensing Scientist

Key Role:

Work as a scientist in a fast-paced research and development team on Electro-Optical/Infra-Red (EO/IR) imagery systems addressing image and video collection and characterization and exploitation problems. Apply remote sensing principles and methods to analyzing data and solving problems, including automating data analysis using machine learning, characterizing existing and new sensor systems, developing new and improve data analysis techniques, and proposing collection strategies to address new signature development. Support informational briefings for educating scientists and managers on research outcomes and the impact on the mission. Design collection experiments and compare measured results with ground truth data. Work on potential projects, including extracting weak signals and identifying new signatures from noisy data, image reconstruction, object detection and tracking, featuring extraction and classification, machine learning, signal processing, and radiometric analysis. Leverage expertise in algorithm development, Matlab and Python scripting, high performance computing (HPC), image science, signal processing, and EO/IR systems.

Basic Qualifications:

-3+ years of experience with imagery science
-3+ years of experience with sensor systems, including airborne, space-borne, or commercial systems, operations, and phenomenology and their impact on image processing, analysis, and exploitation
-Experience with Commercial off the Shelf (COTS) or Government off the Shelf (GOTS) image processing and computer vision software, including MATLAB
-Knowledge of remote sensing technology and collection parameters
-Knowledge of basic scientific understanding of focal plane array technology, including quantum efficiency, cross talk, and flux density
-Ability to be innovative and self-directed with client oversight
-TS/SCI clearance with polygraph
-BA or BS degree

Additional Qualifications:
-Experience with automatic target recognition, including EO, IR, and thermal
-Experience with data processing, including MATLAB imagery and video and analysis
-Experience with data characterization in terms of ground truth, including MATLAB
-Experience with field testing
-Knowledge of a sensor phenomenology area, including OPIR, spectral, LIDAR, or thermal
-Knowledge of all imagery science areas a plus
-Possession of excellent oral and written communication skills
-BA or BS degree in Remote Sensing, Image Science, or Physics preferred; MA or MS degree in Remote Sensing, Image Science, or Physics or PhD degree in Remote Sensing, Image Science, or Physics a plus

Applicants selected will be subject to a security investigation and may need to meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information; TS/SCI clearance with polygraph is required.

We’re an EOE that empowers our people—no matter their race, color, religion, sex, gender identity, sexual orientation, national origin, disability, veteran status, or other protected characteristic—to fearlessly drive change.
