Principle Systems Engineer, #4029

Brief Description

LinQuest is seeking a principal systems engineer to join our team at Kirtland AFB in Albuquerque. 

Provide operational insight to multi-payload satellite integration for launch systems, development, integration testing and validation, implementation and program management to include schedule and risk assessments.  As a member of the Weather Program Office Team within the Space Test Program branch under Space Missile Systems Center, the candidate will be working on addressing challenges within the military weather capabilities to ensure coverage is adequate to meet training and operational needs. The candidate will work with USAF military personnel, other contractors and various companies in influencing the efforts to gap fill aging space weather capabilities and introducing new systems by providing advisory and assistance services.  The work will be accomplished at Kirtland AFB in New Mexico with some travel expected, but not a significant amount; no more than once per quarter, but exceptions may occur depending upon government requirements.

 

Responsibilities:

  • Advise the government on best practices for satellite integration in support of launches directed at delivering weather satellites on orbit
  • Understand and provide assistance in launch operations as it pertains to delivering weather satellites into the appropriate constellations with minimal risk to the on orbit operations
  • Provide oversite assistance in satellite development, launch and integration compliance, implementation and constellation sustainment
  • Work with other team members in managing risk, cost and schedule to allow program success with minimal impacts to the end user, supporting companies and government leadership
  • Work with outside agencies, on behalf of the SMC customer, and provide technical exchanges to allow for problem shooting and successful integration of disparate satellite launch integration requirements
Requirements

Required Skills:

  • A thorough understanding of satellite operations, from operational requirements to launch vehicle integration, launch and on orbit deployment and constellation management
  • Program Management skills, including risk management/assessment, schedule and task tracking using Microsoft Project or equivalent programmatic tool, budgeting and performance oversight
  • Experience in satellite hosting requirements, integration on host vehicle and constraint analysis for launch requirements, including vibration testing, power demands and cross domain solutions
  • An understanding of Air Force acquisitions, budgeting, program development and testing and analysis

 

Preferred Skills:

  • Competency in the use of Microsoft Project, Rational Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) or equivalent requirement management tool
  • Competency in analytical reviews, programmatic and overall project management
  • Problem solving techniques and troubleshooting approaches

 

Required Experience: 

  • Bachelor’s degree with a focus on mathematics, physics or technical subject, including computer science or systems management.  Other fields of study will be considered in conjunction with technical experience as it applies to satellite operations
  • 3+ years or equivalent competency level of requirement management tool experience
  • 3+ years or equivalent competency level of program management
  • US citizenship and a current TS clearance is required in order to be considered for this position

 

Preferred Experience:

  • 10+ years of satellite operations experience with a focus on weather satellites and constellation operational requirements
  • Project Management Professional (PMP) certificated
  • Developmental and Operational Test experience with level I certifications
  • US Air Force acquisitions experience with level I certification
  • Familiarity with analysis of alternatives
  • Experience in electro-optical and infrared imagery
  • Familiarity with commercial weather applications and private sector capabilities
  • Current TS clearance with SCI eligibility
