Principal/Sr. Principal Engineer Supplier Quality

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems is seeking a talented Supplier Quality Engineer to join our team in Woodland Hills, CA.

Responsible for Supplier Quality risk management. Develops and implements supplier quality evaluation and control systems. Assures supplier process and product quality, including contractual, regulatory, and technical compliance. Interfaces directly with supplier personnel and must be knowledgeable in and capable of assessing both supplier quality and manufacturing processes and procedures. Conducts product and process verification activities, monitors supplier quality performance, and drives root cause corrective action analysis for supplier quality issues. Supports the maintenance of the approved supplier list and periodically reviews supplier performance to determine whether suppliers should remain on the approved list. Manages supplier requests for waivers, deviations and discrepancy reporting process. Keeps management apprised of supplier performance, quality status, and risks. Coordinates and oversees Supplier Quality plan implementation through all program phases. Actively engages in supplier evaluation, qualification and selection as part of the Business Acquisition Process (BAP) and as new procurements are required on existing programs. Manages implementation of Supplier Quality processes, including supplier approval activities, source selection evaluations, supplier classification designation (Critical, Key and Standard), development and execution of supplier quality risk assessments and mitigation plans, and supplier quality requirements development and flow-downs.

  • The Supplier Quality Engineer will spend considerable efforts in developing program assessments to determine supplier quality risk, specification compliance reviews and affordable risk mitigation approaches. The candidate must be a self-starter who can problem solve with minimal supervision. The expectation of this role is to proactively manage supplier quality to drive down quality issues and improve delivery.
  • The candidate will also be responsible for planning and implementing Quality Assurance actions for Electrical/Mechanical, PWB/CCA, RF/Microwave, Cable and Connector suppliers as well as developing, collecting, analyzing and presenting supplier metrics to support the division Supplier Quality, Mission Assurance and Global Supply Chain teams.
  • Other activities may include (but not limited to) Production Readiness Reviews, quarterly division and sector supplier reviews, Supplier Quality support quoting and cost tracking, evaluation of supplier capacity, collaboration with programs and suppliers on Root Cause and Corrective Action (RCCA), and engaging with program capture teams to shape sourcing strategies based on supplier quality risk factors.
  • The candidate has technical training and/or experience in specifications/standards, drawing interpretation, MIL-STD-883, IPC-610/J-STD-001, IPC/WHMA-A-620, measurement and analysis methods, supplier process assessments and product inspections, Six Sigma concepts, and above average knowledge of MS Office Applications.

This position will require occasional in state and out of state travel.


This position may be filled at the Principal or Sr. Principal level, depending on experience.

Basic Qualifications for Principal Level:

* Bachelor's Degree in STEM discipline

* 5+ years of experience working in an engineering capacity

* Ability to work with minimum supervision.

* Experience developing, collecting, and analyzing metrics.

* Ability to problem solve

* Experience with measurement analysis methods.

* Experience in drawing interpretation to ANSI Y14.5.

* Ability to obtain a secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).


Basic Qualifications for Sr. Principal Level:

* Bachelor's Degree in STEM discispline

* 9+ years of experience working in an engineering capacity

* Ability to work with minimum supervision.

* Experience developing, collecting, and analyzing metrics.

* Ability to problem solve

* Experience with measurement analysis methods.

* Experience in drawing interpretation to ANSI Y14.5.

* Ability to obtain a secret security clearance (U.S. citizenship required).


Preferred Qualifications for Both Levels:

* RF/Electrical background a plus

*Costpoint Business System experience

* Six Sigma Green Belt or Black Belt Certification

* Quality Engineering Experience

* Earned Value Experience

* Experience working in the aerospace environment

* Secret Clearance
