Principal Software Architect

ARA’s Capital Area Division in Alexandria, VA is seeking a Principal Software Architect for a position defining and developing a cloud-based architecture for an advanced operational analysis system. This system will be deployed for use in the homeland security community. Candidate will have a strong passion and background in full-stack, cloud-based software environment and making quality production software at all stages of the software lifecycle.

As a valued contributor to our project team, your responsibilities will include (1) defining overall system architecture for an analysis environment deployed in federal government systems, (2) managing a small agile team in the development of said software environment, and (3) guiding decision-making on the selection of elements within the software environment with an understanding of how decisions influence each other. Additionally, you will direct the integration of analysis and visualization capabilities into this environment.

Required Qualifications:

  • Deep understanding of the front-end and back-end of IT system architectures, particularly in cloud-based deployments
  • Demonstrated experience in leading an Agile Development and DevOps focused team
  • Experience in managing Continuous Integration / Continuous Development efforts
  • BS in Computer Science or similar with a minimum of 12 years work experience, or MS with a minimum 9 years’ experience
  • US citizen with the ability to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance and a DHS Suitability

Desired Qualifications:

  • Familiarity with containerization and infrastructure as code technologies like Docker, Ansible, and Terraform
  • Experience with Risk Management Framework (RMF) and information assurance/information security activities (e.g. server hardening security control implementation)
  • Interest in data science, data analysis, data visualization, and mathematical algorithms
  • Experience with web-based software development
