Principal Engineer Quality

Adaptive Optics Associates (AOA) Xinetics, a Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems (NGAS) Strategic Business Venture, is seeking a dynamic Principal Quality Engineer for its Special Programs area located in East Hartford, CT.
AOA Xinetics (AOX), part of Northrop Grumman's Aerospace products business unit is a leader in developing challenging, mission critical electro-optical and opto-mechanical systems. Across its three Business Areas (Xinetics, Image Metrology and Special Programs), AOX designs, manufactures and services optical & photonic solutions world-wide for both the industrial and government markets. The Principal Quality Engineer develops, modifies, applies and maintains quality evaluation and control systems and protocols for processing materials into partially finished or finished materials product. Collaborates with engineering and manufacturing functions to ensure quality standards are in place. Devises and implements methods and procedures for inspecting, testing and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment. Designs and analyzes inspection and testing processes, mechanisms and equipment; conducts quality assurance tests; and performs statistical analysis to assess the cost of and determine the responsibility for, products or materials that do not meet required standards and specifications. Audits quality systems for deficiency identification and correction. Ensures that corrective measures meet acceptable reliability standards and that documentation is compliant with requirements. May specialize in the areas of design, incoming material, production control, product evaluation and reliability, inventory control and/or research and development as they apply to product or process quality. May be certified in lean and six-sigma quality engineering methodologies.

Responsibilities Include:

* Develop and implement Program Quality Plans for optical, mechanical and electrical components, sub-systems and systems, based on specification, customer and internal requirements.

* Perform incoming inspection of components, assemblies (mechanical, electrical and optical), raw material and chemicals using sampling procedures per ANSI/ASQ Z1.42003 (as applicable), perform in-process and final inspection of components and sub-systems. Review and verify electrical, mechanical and optical testing methods and test environments. Compiles data, helps to define changes required in product design, testing equipment, testing procedures, manufacturing processes, or new testing requirements. Evaluate product compliance to requirements and readiness to release.

* Recommend design or test methods for achieving required levels of product reliability. Proposes changes in design to improve system and/or process reliability.

* Review and approve drawings, work orders, test procedures. Verify completeness of work orders, test reports, and travelers.

* Evaluate and qualify suppliers capabilities, perform first article qualifications according to SAE AS9102 standards, perform supplier and internal audits, monitor and manage internal and supplier corrective actions, lead Failure Analysis Investigations, chair MRB.

* Analyze and report on internal quality metrics and KPI. Manage improvement projects to address weaknesses.

* Review calibration and chemical documentation for accuracy, update shelf life material and calibration database.

Basic Qualifications:

* Responsible self-starter and team player with mechanical and electrical design and manufacturing QA support experience. Great problem prevention and troubleshooting skills.

* Experience evaluating design and manufacturing documentation for adequacy, accuracy and DfX issues.

* Mechanical, electrical and optical inspections experience. Experience evaluating electrical products to IPC standards. Strong expertise in using various mechanical, electrical and optical measuring equipment, including touch probe and/or vision CMM.

* Comprehensive knowledge in GD&T per ASME Y14.5, acceptability of electronic assemblies per IPC-A-610 and scratch-dig standards for optical surfaces per MIL-PRF-13830B.

* BS or equivalent and minimum 5 years' experience in Quality Assurance. Ability to obtain Top Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

* Experience developing and implementing HW/SW/Systems Program Quality Plans and support processes. Experience in developing and maintaining standards for quality of software and hardware design, including operating methods, processes, systems and procedures.

* Comprehensive knowledge of IPC and optical standards; FMEA, RCCA, or Risk Management experience.

* Experience implementing and/or auditing ISO 9000, AS9100, TL9000, TS16949, ISO 13485, and/or CMMI for Development.

* IPC-A-610, IPC-A-620, Quality, Six Sigma, Reliability, Auditor Certifications

* Active Top Secret Clearance.
