Principal QA Engineer

The Raytheon IDS Supplier Quality organization assures that functional products are delivered to the program areas using quality and effectiveness throughout the product life cycle. Our goal is to establish, oversee and coordinate quality policy and practices ensuring alignment to Raytheon while enabling Mission Assurance.


The Program Supplier Quality Manager is a critical role within Raytheon's Quality Assurance organization.As a Program Supplier Quality Manager, you’re the primary Supplier Quality Lead overseeing multiple supplier execution activities for the Mission System and Sensor programs and you’re responsible for assuring supplier compliance to deliver complex military products.


In this role you will guide communication, decision making and planning among various program integrated product teams including supply chain and subcontractors in assuring unique program requirements are met.


Your skill set will include solid understanding of and prior work knowledge in the basic Supplier Quality tools such as the execution of Supplier Assessments, First Article Inspection Validation, Sub tier Supplier Management, Special Process Management, Contract Review/Flowdown and Counterfeit Parts Avoidance.


Additional responsibilities will include:
  • Developing Program Supplier Quality and Subcontractor Product Acceptance Plans
  • Interpreting purchase order quality notes and quality requirements to ensure subcontractor/supplier understanding
  • Ensuring flow down of Product requirements both internally and to sub-tier suppliers, and ensuring compliance with quality requirements
  • Assessing subcontractor/supplier quality capabilities throughout the program life cycle
  • Identifying supplier risk and systemic performance issues ensuring corrective solutions are identified and implemented with closure plans
  • Driving continuous product / process improvements
  • Participating in Statement of Work Development, peer review and sign off
  • Managing Subcontract Data Requirements List deliverables
  • Leading First Article Verification
  • Creating and presenting monthly Program Reviews to the Supplier Quality and Mission Assurance Leadership Teams.


Up to 50% travel to supplier and sub-tier supplier facilities primarily in the U.S. Other domestic & international travel may be required.



This position can be a Salary Grade G10 or a Salary Grade G11 based on the candidate's qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibility requirements for the position.



U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.



Required Skills:
  • 8+ years’ experience with Engineering, Quality, Supplier and/or Program Management
  • Experience with Supplier Quality Management
  • Experience with problem resolution of technical and quality issues
  • Experience managing relationships with customers or suppliers
  • US Citizenship required

  • Experience with assessments of suppliers: requirement flow down, technical data package (TDP) reviews, translation of TDP to manufacturing data package (MDP), product acceptance and process evaluations at supplier’s facilities
  • Experience working issues (root cause analysis, corrective and preventative actions), monitoring supplier performance data to identify trends, analyzing opportunities for continuous improvement, implementing supplier improvement actions including Lean Manufacturing and Six Sigma.
  • Knowledge of manufacturing operations such as machining, metal fabrication techniques and assembly of large mechanical structures
  • General knowledge of how aerospace and defense specifications/standards are flowed into quality and qualification requirements for purchased material
  • General Statistical Process Control (SPC) knowledge including implementation
  • Strong planning, facilitating and team building skills
  • Six Sigma , Lean and / or American Society for Quality (ASQ) Certification (CQE, CQM/OE, CSQE, CQA, CRE, etc)
  • Experience with external customer (government) assessments / audits.
  • Excellent in written / verbal communication and presentation skills
  • Ability to use Microsoft Office Tools: Outlook, Excel, Word, Powerpoint
  • Willingness to travel and potentially take an international assignment and have experience with 2nd language other than English or experience with a culture other than US.
  • MBA Preferred



Required Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics or a Technical Discipline
