Principal Mechanical Engineer

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems is seeking a highly qualified, mission oriented Mechanical Engineer to join the Mechanical Integration and Test (I&T) team to develop both Mechanical Test procedures and Mechanical Ground Support Equipment (MGSE) to execute mechanical Integration and test of a Space Systems. The candidate will interpret engineering drawings and specifications and interact across engineering disciplines to clarify requirements, constraints, and potential conflicts in support of developing and executing Mechanical Test procedures.

The candidate will be responsible for coordinating task execution, including facilities, personnel, and hardware, support problem resolution, procedure closeout, and requirements verification. The candidate will use a systems engineering approach to gather and analyze requirements and design a mechanical solution by creating 3D models and drawings utilizing CATIA V5. In particular, the candidate will create layout drawings, fabrication drawings and engineering change orders, give design review presentations and perform fundamental types of analysis (e.g. strength of materials). Other tasks will include fabrication engineering liaison support, hardware testing, and supporting Integration and test operations as related to mechanical ground support equipment usage and processing.


Basic Qualifications:

  • Minimum of Five (5) years of engineering experience with Bachelors in Science in a (STEM) Science, Technology, Engineering or Math discipline. OR Minimum of three (3) years of engineering experience with a Masters in Science a (STEM) Science, Technology, Engineering or Math discipline.
  • Experience creating three (3) Dimensional models/drawings for fabrication utilizing Computer Aided Design (CAD).
  • Candidate must have and be able to maintain an active U.S. Government security clearance at the Top Secret level with a background investigation date within 6 years. OR Candidate must have and be able to maintain an active U.S. Government SCI access with a Single Scope Background Investigation (SSBI) completed within the last 5 years.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Degree in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering desired.
  • Previous experience with CATIA V5 highly preferred.
  • Experience with CAPE or Solumina.
  • Experience in Test Engineering; developing/executing test procedures.
  • Practical working experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T).
  • Experience in Support Equipment or Tooling design; weldments, load bearing fixtures, and lifting equipment.
  • Experience in Integration and Test operations as related to Mechanical Ground Support Equipment usage and processing.
  • Active SCI/SSBI
