Principal Mechanical Engineer

Job Description:
The Hardware Engineering Center – Electronic Warfare Systems in Goleta (HWEC - EWS) is an engineering organization that focuses on Mechanical product design, producibility, and mission assurance. It is a vital link in the integrated product development process that allows Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems to introduce reliable new products faster, better, and more economically.

Currently seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer with strong electrical and mechanical packaging skills to join the team at EW Raytheon in Goleta, California.

The engineer in this position will lead numerous projects and interact with cross-functional leads to verify requirements are flowed down, captured, and addressed. The engineer is responsible for preparing large section of the program technical reviews such as the SRR, PDR, CDR, TRR, MRR presentations. Data packages entail technical information that must be prepared and presented to internal line management, technical staff, program management, and customer reviewers and their consultants. Conceptual designs must be well thought out such that designs are reasonable and can be executed with potential technical risks presented.

The engineer in this position requires an in-depth knowledge of mechanical design, structural and thermal analysis and experience of programs from pre-proposal through conceptual, preliminary, critical phase as well as build, test and delivery of products.

Job Related Activities:
  • Lead and own the design, documentation, and implementation of mechanical hardware for subsystem design.
  • Actively work with Program Management, Systems Engineering, and Customers to develop and manage objectives and requirements for related pursuits and projects.
  • Provide oversight of subcontractors as required for the program development.
  • Create and lead Mechanical design teams to successfully design and document solutions to meet program objectives and requirements.
  • Comply with Export/Import (EX/IM) regulations and policies as well as support Jurisdiction Classification Assessments (JCAs), as needed.
  • Ensure the consistent application of engineering best practice and that all activities undertaken under their control are conducted to common standards in accordance with Raytheon's processes.

Required Skills:
  • Minimum of 10 years of experience in mechanical engineering design and product support
  • Actively work with Program Management, Systems Engineering, and Customers to develop and manage objectives and requirements for related pursuits and projects.
  • Lead an engineering team to successfully design, document, and execute solution to meet program objectives and requirements.
  • Ability to apply high level principles, theories, and concepts within the mechanical engineering field and general knowledge of other related disciplines.
  • Direct experience in developing detail mechanical designs and documentation packages for RF, Electronic and/or mechanical systems
  • Experience with RF and electro-mechanical program manufacturing operations and processes
  • Experience in design assembly and integration of mechanical, RF electronic systems
  • Experience with M/S Office Tools i.e. Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio
  • Ability to develop conceptual designs in support of new business initiatives
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Secret Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.
  • Hands on experience with Geometric Dimensioning and Tolerance analysis for drawings
  • Hands on experience with PTC CREO (Pro/Engineer) modeling and analysis tools

Desired Skills:
  • Microsoft Project
  • Experience in developing conceptual designs in support of new business initiatives
  • Prior experience in Defense or Aerospace
  • Existing DoD Security Clearance

Required Education: B.S. in Mechanical Engineering or related discipline, and minimum 10 years of related experience.

Desired Education: Advanced degree in a related field
