Principal Mechanical Engineer

Northrop Grumman Aerospace Systems has an opening for a Principal Mechanical Engineer to join our team of highly qualified and diverse individuals. This position will be located inEl Segundo,California.

Successful candidate will be a composites structural design engineer responsible for significant statement of work creating and maintaining Product Definition Packages, and assisting the team lead in mentoring and maintaining progress of team assignments. Candidate will work in close partnership with analysis, manufacturing, and specialty engineering, as well as with suppliers, and other IPTs to define design requirements. This role requires strong interpersonal and communication skills and will interface equally with program leadership and junior engineers.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor of Science in STEM (Science,Technology,Engineering, and/or Mathematics) with 5years of experience in an engineering field; OR Masters of Science in STEM with 3 years of experience in an engineering field
  • Experience with 3D modeling software
  • Experience designing composite and metallic primary structures
  • Active DOD Secret Clearance, or higherwith the ability to obtain Special Program Access.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Experience with the design and fabrication of Out of Autoclave Composite Structures
  • Over 4000 hours of experience in Catia V5 and Fibersim to generate CAD models and engineering drawings
  • Prior Experience with clean-sheet new design of composite structure
  • Proficiency with Microsoft suite, including Project and Access
  • Ability to create tools to automate common reoccurring tasks and identify opportunities for efficiencies
  • Ability to communicate and collaborate with all engineering disciplines and levels of leadership
