We are seeking an experienced Senior System Performance Engineer with advanced expertise in developing system concepts and assessing the performance of multi-mission solutions for current and emerging threats in all environments. The ideal candidate has proven experience in defining system performance criteria and methodologies, and the nationally recognized reputation and presence required to advise executive leadership in pursuit of organizational business objectives.

Job Description:
This is a Principal Engineering Fellow position within the Systems Design and Performance Directorate performing advanced system performance design and analysis as well as overall system performance assessments. This will include development of a spectrum of simulation capabilities used to perform various levels of system level performance analysis, including lethality assessments. Additionally, this position will be responsible for defining and driving the roadmap for this expertise across the business. The role will require acting independently to identify and resolve issues associated with the development and implementation of system/system of systems (SOS) level performance, potentially affecting multiple programs. The Principal Engineering Fellow will guide the successful completion of major program efforts in a technical leadership capacity. The individual will represent the organization as a prime spokesperson for System Performance and will interact with senior leadership to plan and execute programs, while also helping to shape the strategic direction of RMS product development to accomplish long-term objectives.

Key Responsibilities (Essential Functions):

  • Define and drive how Engineering measures performance against current and emerging/alternative threats
  • Experience with evolving system capabilities including technology insertion
  • Understand and develop a wide fidelity of simulation capabilities from rapid/simple modeling (Ops Research) through detailed 6-DOF analysis
  • Drive expertise in modeling and simulating complex target identification, tracking, discrimination, and threat representation and engagement to include capabilities for lethality assessment of engagements
  • Viewed within the enterprise as an expert and should have knowledge across the full life cycle model for Raytheon Corporation as well as the industry
  • Responsible for providing guidance, coaching / mentoring and training to E44s and other Engineering staff across the enterprise
  • Develop concepts and solutions to complex technical challenges often involving multiple system and subsystem interactions involving RF and/or EO/IR sensor technologies
  • Lead system design decisions involving trade studies, requirements allocation, and verification methods
  • Analyze system performance and associated risk assessments in simulation, hardware subsystem test, and flight test environments
  • Engage across engineering disciplines to ensure proper implementation
  • Pursue advanced research and development funding both internally and externally to Raytheon
  • Ensures that the performance of the developed system meets customer requirements
  • Defines system architecture, functional allocations, and design allocations
  • Defines strategy to ensure modeling and simulation achieves verification, validation, and accreditation
  • Understands and communicates performance impacts of all technical risks

Required Education (including Major):
Master’s Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) and minimum 20 years of prior relevant experience. Ph.D. preferred.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Twenty (20) years of applied engineering experience in missile/space vehicle design and performance analysis
  • Have led System Performance strategy for technical proposals
  • Led advanced trades of alternative system solutions, identifying key customer care-abouts and system performance drivers that shaped customers’ requirements
  • System design experience collaborating across multiple engineering disciplines, such as electronics, mechanical, and software engineering while considering life-cycle affordability
  • Proficiency with system level modeling and simulation tools, such as 6-DOF simulations, to perform trade studies, develop algorithms, and demonstrate system level performance
  • Experience with system development and qualification
  • Demonstrated experience presenting technical data and interacting with customer community in design reviews and technical interchange meetings
  • Familiarity with assessing program level risks to performance objectives and communicating status to business leadership and customer community
  • Industry experience interfacing with Military or Department of Defense customers
  • Established network within the Department of Defense and defense industry and recognized as an expert in defense system design and performance
  • Ability to use business acumen in creating solutions

Other Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Top Secret security clearance
  • Must be willing to relocate to Tucson, AZ (comprehensive relocation package available)

Desired Skills:

  • Master’s Degree or Ph.D. in Systems Engineering, Aerospace, Mechanical, or Electrical Engineering
  • Must provide evidence of patents and/or reviewed publications/presentations in related field(s)
  • Experience with business capture effort coordination and proposal preparation to obtain research funding or new business contracts, spanning technical proposal development, work breakdown structures and cost estimation
