Principal Electrical Engineer

Northrop Grumman Technology Services sector is seeking an Electrical Engineer to work at the Airborne Systems Integration Center's Special Mission Electronic Aircraft (SEMA) Program Management Office (PMO) in Huntsville, Alabama.

This position is for the electrical/avionics engineer for our company on the Army's SEMA Contractor Logistics Support (CLS) contract. This contract provides the maintenance, upgrades, and support for the Army's fixed wing special mission fleet. Electrical engineers at our facility provide cross functional support to our ground support and PMO teams, working within our repair station to integrate new capabilities onto commercial aircraft and support our customer fleets. They assist with both the technical management and technical design of solutions. The ideal candidate would have prior avionics and aviation test experience, strong requirements management fundamentals, strong technical skills for designing and coordinating the integration of avionics upgrades and payloads aboard aircraft solutions to include SIGINT payloads, radars, electro-optical systems, communications systems and survivability equipment, strong technical knowledge of the electronics used on ISR platforms, develop and maintain relationships with in the aviation industry, effectively communicate with non-technical personnel and the ability to work on fast paced projects. A strong background in electrical engineering, including preparing electrical engineering reports, wiring diagrams, block diagrams, electrical load analysis, ground/flight test reports and other technical reports required to obtain FAA Field and STC approvals is needed.

Responsibilities:

  • Performing trade studies, requirements derivation, and establishing the overall aircraft configuration based on Customer requirements
  • Creating conceptual and detailed designs of electrical and avionic component installations and wiring diagrams.
  • Writing detailed electrical substantiation reports and other technical reports as required in order to obtain FAA/Military airworthiness approvals
  • Bill of material and data configuration management; fastener and material selection
  • Reviewing and checking engineering drawings, reports, and cost/schedule estimates for completeness and accuracy
  • Incorporates civil and military airworthiness standards into requirements and test plans
  • Develops subcontractor statements of work and tracks subcontractor technical progress
  • Conducts trade studies supported by modeling and simulation
  • Verification/validation of non-standard parts
  • Assists with integration, troubleshooting and ground test of installed systems
  • Ability to analyze maintenance/failure data to identify trends
  • Provide cross-functional engineering support to all SEMA PMO IPTs
  • Assist with Diminishing Manufacturing Supply, Material Shortages (DMSMS) process
  • Develop and deliver engineering owned Contract Data Requirements List (CDRLs)


Qualifications:

Basic Qualifications:

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen with ability to obtain a DoD Secret Clearance or higher
  • Must have an interim Secret Clearance to Start
  • B.S. degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering plus a minimum of five (5) years aircraft integration or related engineering experience
  • Ability to generate electrical drawings and design diagrams using AutoCAD or similar software
  • Experience integrating surveillance and communication technologies and other systems onto aircraft
  • Familiarity with EMI/EMC prevention, wire shielding and wire protection/sizing
  • Knowledge of aircraft electrical systems, wiring diagrams, and engineering documentation
  • Past experience in developing electrical modification and installation work instructions, procedures and recommendations
  • Ability to demonstrate clear verbal and written communication skills and work well in a team environment
  • Ability to travel infrequently for business, CONUS


Preferred Qualifications:

  • Former domain experience with military operations, military intelligence, ISR aircraft, UAS and/or US Special Forces
  • Knowledge and understanding of FAA 14 CFR Part 23 & Part 25 aircraft certifications requirements and the Supplemental Type Certificate (STC) process is highly preferred
  • Multidisciplinary experience to include avionics and systems engineering
  • Final DoD Secret or higher clearance, SCI credentials
  • Ability/interest to occasionally travel to forward deployed, high risk areas like Afghanistan for short term test and system fielding projects (1-4 weeks)
