Power Supply/Converter Engineer II

This is a position in McKinney, Tx, with some work also in the Dallas, Tx site for a power supply design engineer in the Hardware Electronics Center of Raytheon’s Space and Airborne Systems (SAS) business unit.

Job Description:
Participate in the design and development power conversion technologies for space and airborne military applications.

Required Skills:
  • 0-2 years hands-on experience and working with switching power converters
  • Experience with designing and testing of DC-DC Converters
  • Experience with generating requirement documents, schematics, and board routing instructions
  • Experience with multiple conversion topologies (Flyback, Forward, Boost, Phase-Shifted-Full-Bridge, LLC, etc.) and experience with simulating and modeling designs
  • Experience with SPICE simulation tools is a must
  • Experience with schematic capture and PCB tools and layout design for power converters
  • Experience with developing test plans, procedures and test solutions
  • Experience with magnetics, i.e., magnetization inductance, magnetization current, leakage inductance, intra-winding and inter-winding capacitance, self-resonant frequency, characteristics and limitations of magnetic cores, core saturation, core loss, high frequency losses, core reset, winding techniques for optimization of desired magnetics, and design of current transformers
  • BSEE and 2+ years of experience
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.
  • U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will require the ability to access US only data systems.

Desired Skills:
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office tools
  • Experience with moving from concept to architecture to design
  • Technical leadership skill and working knowledge of Earned Value Management methods are also highly desired. Patents and publications are also a plus.
  • Able to work independently and in collaboration with multi-discipline team environment
  • Experience with designing and testing of AC-DC Converters
  • Knowledge of the Mentor Expedition/Dx Designer schematic capture/PCB Layout tools
  • Simulation with Saber desirable
  • Analysis tools such as MATLAB, MATHCAD, Ansoft Maxwell and PExpert, Hyperlinx PI and SI
  • Digital and analog control design, including components, FW and SW development tools
  • Working knowledge of EMI/EMC design and abatement
  • Minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA (Please upload an unofficial transcript when applying)
  • Prior or current U.S. Secret Security clearance
  • MSEE or PhD EE preferred

Required Education:
Must have a Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university with a major in Electrical Engineering (in the field of power electronics) by December 2018 or have graduated within 18 months prior to start date.

Desired Education:
  • MS degree from an accredited university with a major in Electrical Engineering (in the field of power electronics) by December 2018
  • PhD degree from an accredited university with a major in Electrical Engineering (in the field of power electronics) by December 2018
