Job Description:
Individual provides direct support to the Office of the Deputy Assistant Secretary of Defense for Nuclear Matters regarding the national strategic deterrent and reducing nuclear threats. Drawing from extensive academic preparation and experience, the individual advises on the development and oversight of DoD implementation guidance, requirements, and organizational initiatives related to nuclear weapons, and on U.S. activities to reduce nuclear threats. Individual reviews documents, contributes to studies or task forces, prepares papers and staff summaries and briefings, attends/participates in meetings within/across the Department, across the interagency and other branches of government and/or with academia and industry.
Emphasis may include the national nuclear stockpile; nuclear weapons operations; nuclear threat detection; nuclear forensics; nuclear accident/incident response; national response framework (response to a nuclear–radiological incident); emergency response and consequence management; nuclear enterprise and infrastructure transformation; nuclear weapons effects (e.g., blast, overpressure, fire, EMP, HEMP); survivability from nuclear weapon effects; stockpile sustainment; nuclear weapon program requirements; radiation detection initiatives; and the national and DoD policies which underlay the above. Individual may provide direct support to the Nuclear Weapons Council (NWC) and the NWC Standing and Safety Committee (NWCSSC) and contribute to or prepare joint NNSA/DoD reports for delivery to the President and/or to the Congress.
Qualifications
Education: Graduate degree in (nuclear) physics, nuclear engineering, rad-chemistry (chemistry), materials science, mathematics or related science field is required with 15 year relevant experience. Doctorate-level degree in nuclear engineering or nuclear physics (or related field) is strongly desired.
Required Skills:
Current active TS SCI level security clearance a must.
Desired Skills: Leadership and management training and experience.
