Physical Security Engineer

Job Summary
The Physical Security Engineer serves as the coordinator for all Diplomatic Security (DS) approved physical security upgrade (PSU) projects from identification through development, implementation and close-out. Works closely with appropriate program security section to coordinate with all other embassy stakeholders in terms of building codes, space utilization, post planning permission, and project phasing and scheduling.
Principal Accountabilities
(Typical duties include the following, although specific duties vary by assignment or contract)
  • Plan, organize, coordinate, and schedule activities, resources, equipment, and information of single and/or multiple physical security projects.
  • Draft comprehensive scopes of work and project schedules for review/edit/approval of program management.
  • Present, review, and track proposed and approved project(s) changes and produce updated schedules, including disseminating any revised project(s) documentation.
  • Prepare meeting minutes, presentations and reporting documents.
  • Compile and file all project documents.
  • Coordinate and track administrative tasks and personnel travel arrangements and expenses.
  • Draft and/or review planning documents.
  • Coordinate interfaces between multiple projects.
  • Coordinate involvement of architectural, civil/structural, mechanical, electrical, and specialty disciplines.
  • Work with other embassy sections to coordinate and de-conflict projects.
  • Provide support in project design, bid, construction, and inspection/certification phases.
  • Monitor and report to program management on progress of laborers as necessary during projects.
  • Ensure existing post physical security infrastructure and mechanical equipment is maintained and in good working order – recommend and arrange for periodic maintenance/repair/replacement as necessary. (Equipment and infrastructure includes items such as T-Walls, Hesco Barriers, hydraulic Delta barriers, drop arms, gates, gate motors, bollards, cameras, guard booths, steel doors, Dyna Towers, and dozens of other specialized physical and technical security products.)
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge & Skills
  • Must be able to read blueprints and schematic diagrams of electrical and mechanical systems to be used for minor adjustments and repairs.
  • Able to use knowledge and skills to rectify problems associated with security equipment independently and direct other technicians to do the same.
  • Demonstrated familiarity with Diplomatic Security (DS) Physical Security standards and practices.
  • Strong organizations skills and the ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and effective communication skills.
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Office applications and AutoCad.
  • Strong project management and planning skills.
  • Ability to use electronic test equipment.
  • Initiative and sound judgment.

Experience & Education

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering/architecture/technical discipline.
  • Engineering in Training (EIT) Certificate preferred, but not required
  • Three (3) or more years’ of related experience.
  • 4/4 English language required.

Physical Requirements/Working Environment

  • Work in an austere environment.
