Pesticide Application Engineer

 

The Health Business Unit (Military Health Solutions Resource Group) specializes in medical and public health preparedness for military and government clients.  We are currently seeking an Pesticide Application Engineer. This full-time position is located in Jacksonville, FL.

JOB SUMMARY

The ideal candidate for this position will be a self-starter who asks questions driven by an innate curiosity, possesses a capacity and willingness for critical thinking, is able to draw conclusions from limited data, and demonstrates exemplary communication skills.  Conduct research and analyze results to evaluate the effectiveness of current and novel pesticide technologies (insecticides and insecticide application technology) in the field and laboratory; responsibiities listed below.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Apply scientific method and technical skills to advance public health pesticide application technologies and techniques to control the spread of insect carried human disease. Technology shall include, but is not limited to, truck-mounted, skid-mounted, handheld and aerial equipment. 
  • Recommendations for improvements regarding existing public health pesticide application technologies and techniques (for use during military operations to control diseases carried by insects)
  • Obtain technical training from subject matter experts (SMEs), as required, to attain proficiency in new pesticide application equipment technology and techniques (work with pesticide application equipment, techniques, and modification projects).
  • Prepare weekly project status and completion reports.
  • Present project results at professional meetings, symposia, and working groups. 
  • Submit work and/or written drafts for publication in peer-reviewed journals. 
  • Collaborate with Governmental and Non-Governmental Organizations: 
  • Initiate contact and develop cooperative relationships with governmental and non-governmental organizations associated with public health pesticide application technology and techniques aiding in the mission of the Navy Entomology Center of Excellence.  Examples of these organizations include industry, academia, professional societies and governmental entities. 
  • Assist in the development and maintenance of partnerships with global partners in public health vector control such as the World Health Organization Pesticide Evaluation Scheme and Global Collaboration for Development of Pesticides for Public Health.
  • Attend professional meetings, industry trade shows, technical/scientific symposia, and academic seminars.  
     
THE FOLLOWING IS REQUIRED
  • Doctor of Philosophy degree in Agricultural Engineering with at least two-years’ experience using scientific methods and techniques concerned with public health insecticide application equipment. 
  • An understanding of pertinent insecticide chemistry, biological sciences, and public health concepts related to the control of insects that carry human diseases. 
  • Familiarity with related guidelines including various Federal and State regulations pertaining to safety precautions or pesticide use and the disposal of insecticides.
  • Must have an active Secret Security clearance or the ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance.
  • Demonstrated experience in project design, execution, data analysis, and publication in peer-reviewed journals. 
  • Familiarity with technical and administrative requirements for project development, execution and management. 
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
     
THE FOLLOWING IS DESIRED
  • Five-years’ experience in using scientific methods and techniques concerned with public health insecticide application equipment. 
  • Proficiency in major computer operating systems including Microsoft Office Suite, JMP Statistical Software, and Weather Caster Weather Station Software.
