Operational Language Analyst (Cryptologic Linguist) 3

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
 
The Operational Language Analyst performs tasks required to process voice and/or graphic language materials in support of SIGINT Operations.


EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
- Bachelor of Arts (BA)/Bachelor of Science (BS) degree or equivalent.

- Performance at skill level 3 in both audio translation and text translation (per the ILR [Text] Translation and Audio Translation skill level descriptions) from the required language(s) into idiomatic standard American English. Skill level shall be documented within two (2) years prior to resume submission.

- Equivalent of ten (10) years full-time combined cryptologic language processing, related language and/or related cryptologic experience in the required language(s): Arabic -“ Levantine (AP); Arabic -“ Yemeni (AU); Arabic -“ Iraqi (OG); Arabic -“ Maghrebi (AM); Persian Farsi (PF); Pashto (PU); Russian; Chechen; Somali.

- Performance of the following tasks constitutes acceptable cryptologic language processing experience: Within Cryptologic Operations: scanning and sorting/categorizing foreign language materials; recovering essential elements of information; producing and performing quality control of gists, translations and transcripts; compiling and updating operational working aids and databases; and drafting intelligence reports.

- Performance of the following tasks constitutes acceptable related language experience: oral interpretation (from the required language into English and vice versa); written translation (from the required language into English and vice versa); audio translation (from the required language into English): audio transcription in the required language; document exploitation that involves gisting/translation (from the required language into English); and teaching the required language.

- Performance of following tasks constitutes acceptable related cryptologic experience: Within Cryptologic Operations: target development; network analysis; speaker identification; language identification; and document exploitation that involves sorting/categorizing/language identification.

- In lieu of the Bachelor's Degree an additional four (4) years of directly related, applied, practical work experience may be substituted.

- At least six (6) of the ten (10) years' experience shall be in performing Cryptologic Operations language processing; no more than four (4) years shall he in a combination of related language experience and related cryptologic experience.

- At least six (6) of the ten (10) years' experience shall be in the required language(s); of this, at least four (4) years shall be in cryptologic language processing (no more than two 2) years shall be in related language experience).

- At least three (3) of the six (6) years' experience in the required language(s) shall be in translating and/or transcribing, and gisting.

- Experience translating and/or transcribing and gisting at least two (2) ILR level 3 missions/topics in the required language(s).

- At least one (1) of the six (6) years' experience in the required language(s) shall be in performing quality control review of lLR level 3 audio translations and/or text translations, as specified in the ITO.

- Reporting shall be the primary duty for no more than three (3) of the required ten (10) years' experience.

- At least one (1) year experience mentoring/training junior personnel.

- One (1) year experience typing; using English and appropriate foreign language fonts and keyboard.

- One (1) of the six (6) years' experience in the required language(s) shall he within six (6) years of resume submission for work on the Contract.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face-to-face. Some travel may be required. May spend a lot of time standing due to laboratory conditions.
