Network Systems Administrator/Analyst 2

Design, oversee, implement and maintain DoD network systems. Integrate hardware/software solutions for prototypes and/or system delivery. Derive requirements from customer specifications, conduct systems analysis, requirements trace, design verification, integration, testing, and validation.


Work scope may include any/all of the following duties:

  • Perform an evaluation of existing network and server software and hardware in order to determine development and deployment platforms, tools and packages.
  • Derive requirements from the customer specifications, conduct systems analysis, requirements trace, design verification, integration, testing, and validation. Recommend solutions based on requirements and industry survey/standards.
  • Provide documentation supporting recommendations that provides rationale for proposed solution.
  • Configure network systems hardware and software for maximum reliability information assurance, and system security.
  • Provide expertise in the design, oversight, implementation, and maintenance of Enterprise network systems.
  • Administers automated systems (new or existing) to the point where they can be stabilized, documented and transitioned over to the customer. Transition and turnover includes classroom training with training documents and follow up support
  • Recommend and implement development facility configurations and upgrades in support of the TARIF software development team.
  • Support installation and documentation of TARIF software applications used at the Air Force and Navy TTRs.
  • Maintain and administer TARIF and CES Division computer networks and related systems and support system security and accreditation requirements.
  • Configure new computer hardware for installations at DoD ranges and install computer systems at the TARIF and within the CES Division.
  • Act as the TARIF and Thompson Lab RDT&E computer network system administrator. Assist with the backup and restoration of the TARIF software development and test systems
  • Configure CES computer systems backup software for optimal network performance and automated back-ups
  • Execute system security functional evaluations and testing
  • Assist with the administration of automated systems (e.g., Thompson Lab secure entry system).
  • Support day-to-day activity with regards to the TARIF computers, network systems, and related support facility.
  • Operate, maintain, and provide engineering support of Tactical Combat Training System (TCTS) and subsystem electronic and computer systems and work closely with system software developers and users of fielded systems and provide “front line” technical support.
  • Support the operation of building security systems (CAC access, issue door combinations)
  • Maintain technical competency in computer systems, network technology, and operation systems.


Education and Experience:
Two years of college in a computer field and five years of related experience or any equivalent combination of relevant education or experience for a total of seven years. Progressive relevant training and/or certifications may be substituted for one year of education or experience requirements.

Knowledge, skills & abilities required:
  • Working knowledge of DoD information assurance instructions, Navy specific Standards/Instructions, and organizational structure as related to Information Technology and system IA requirements, system/project management life cycle methodologies (e.g. spiral, iterative) and the documentation associated with those methodologies.
  • Expertise is required in the areas of network connectivity, network operating systems, network security, intranet server software, and the associated hardware.
  • Must be capable of multi-tasking and positively interacting with disparate types of individuals on a daily basis
  • Persistence, good communication and writing skills are required.
  • Must be able to work independently when required as well as work closely with other personnel.
Training & Certifications:
  • CompTIA Security + Required prior to beginning position
  • Applicable operating system certification must be able to be obtained within 6 months of hire date
  • Must be a US Citizen, currently hold a US Secret Security Clearance and be able to obtain and retain a TS/SCI.

Work Environment
  • Typically indoor conditions but heat may be a factor.
  • Need to work well with, co-operate, and support clients, supervisors, and co-workers
  • Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require typing, and reading from a computer screen.
  • Must have sufficient mobility, including but not limited to bending, reaching, and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner.
  • There is a possibility that due to parking availability and location of work, walking moderate to long distance may be required.
Equipment and Machines
  • Ability to operate office equipment such as personal computer, printer, copy machine, telephone, fax machine and other equipment including desk supplies and other work related tools as required.
Attendance
  • Normal hours are Monday – Thursday 7:00am – 5:00pm, non-flex Fridays 7:00am to 4:00pm
  • Punctuality and regular attendance are necessary to meet deadlines
  • Must exhibit flexibility of work hours to adjust to surge situations based on critical mission requirements.
  • With the exception of STD/LTD/FMLA & approved time off, attendance is considered essential.
Other Essential Functions
  • Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers. Must have clear, concise and accurate communications skills in English, both verbal and written.
  • Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk to employees or others.
  • Must maintain a positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner.
  • Independent personal transportation to work site is required. Travel to and from customer's locations may be required to support projects. This may involve airline travel. In some cases, accommodations can possibly be made for POV, if necessary.
  • When operating any vehicle for work purposes, must wear seat belt and in addition, no cellular devices are to be used when vehicle is in motion.
  • Must pass drug testing.
