Description
The Network Operations Support Associate works under the general
direction of the Operations Support Manager and technical direction of the
Network Operations Controller (NOC) lead. They are responsible for real-time
operational configurations for mission, simulation, and test activities.
Coordinates, controls, monitors, and ensures the integrity of the
configuration, distribution, and operations of all data communications
equipment data circuits and their interfaces Internal to MCC and between the
MCC, International Partners, ISS network, internal and external users (e.g.,
Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), Jet
Propulsion Laboratory (JPL), European Space Agency (ESA) Japan Aerospace
Exploration Agency (JAXA), and Canadian Space Agency (CSA). The Controller
ensures the continuity, availability, and integrity of MCC communications
circuits, processing, and distribution systems required for the International
Space Station (ISS) real-time mission, simulations, and test activities, to
include visiting vehicles.
Responsibilities
- Coordinates, controls, and monitors the configuration and operation of all
LAN/WAN, data communications circuits and equipment between JSC, Goddard Space Flight Center (GSFC), Ground Network/Space Network
(GN/SN), Kennedy Space Center (KSC), DeepSpace Network (DSN) and Marshall Space Flight Center (MSFC), during ISS
mission, simulations, and test support.
- Initiates activities and configures equipment for use accordance with the
operational schedules.
- Participates, updates, and generates inputs to documentation reviews which
include Mission Operations Handbook (MOH), Flight Control Operations Handbook (FCOH), NOC Local Operating
Procedures, etc.
- Technical representative at technical meetings, conferences, or working
groups related to maintaining or updating a flight-ready system and provides technical presentations when required.
- Participates in the training of NOC trainees in assigned areas of the
Network Operations Controller Training and Certification Plan.
- Conducts integrity testing on MCC internal and external data communication
circuits, satellite links, and communications equipment required to support scheduled and non-scheduled MCC ISS-related operations.
- Identifies data communications equipment and circuit problems, initiates and
leads fault isolation efforts until resolution.
- Communicates status of data communications circuits and associated equipment
to the MCC Operations Team (OT) Mission Representatives, Ground Controller (GC), affected OT positions and participants
within the NASA Communications Network during ISS related activities.
- Provides comprehensive end-of-shift Network Operations Controller status
summaries to the MCC Ground Controller (GC), and other reports as required during mission and non-mission support activities.
- Maintains detailed Network Operations Controller Console logs with attention
to communications of information necessary for subsequent controller operation or detailed follow-up of problem isolation.
- Performs other job-related branch tasks as assigned by the Operations
Support Manager and Lead Controller.
Qualifications
Required Education & Experience- Bachelors degree in an IT related field and 0 years experience or Associates and 2 years IT experience. 4 years of related experience may be accepted in lieu of degree.
Desired Experience
- Experience with networks and IT Systems preferred.

- Must be able obtain &
maintain a Public Trust Security Clearance.
