Network Engineer (TS/SCI with Poly)

Jacobs is seeking a Network Engineer in the Herndon, VA area. Duties will include:

  • Tier 4 troubleshooting
  • Involves troubleshooting complex network issues in which other components of Operation request assistance
  • Must be available/willing to provide on-call rotation for one week every 5 weeks
  • Installs, configures and supports an organization’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), customer networks, Intranet and internet and other data communications systems or a segment of a network system
  • Perform long term O&M activities to include Tier 4 troubleshooting and problem resolution. Explain design specifications to integration or test engineers. Develop plans or budgets for network equipment replacement
  • Prepare design presentation and proposals for staff or customers.
  • Responsible to provide network engineering solutions to include requirements gathering, architecture design, testing, implementation, documentation and supportability


  • Must have TS/SCI with Poly
  • CCNA/CCNP certification
  • Six (6+) years of experience in IP network technology
  • Working knowledge of/how to properly implement the following:
    • STP, VTP and Virtual LAN’s and Trunking (VLAN’s)
    • Network Security (ACL’s, IPSec Tunnels)
    • SONET, ATM, MPLS, POS, Multicast
  • Experience with Type 1 cryptographic equipment from both an engineer and policy perspective
Desired Qualifications:
  • Understanding of networking systems and TCP/IP to include experience in IP Addressing and Subnetting; Network Address Translations; MTU; QoS
  • Knowledge of Routing and Switching systems (Cisco or Juniper)
  • Understanding of Routing Protocols (OSPF, EIGRP, and BGP) and Gateway Redundancy Protcols (HSRP, VRRP, and GLRP).
  • Excellent verbal, written communication and presentation skills

Education: BS degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and five (5) years to eight (8) years of progressive, relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, training and certifications.

Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Work Environment:
General Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across the Company and Customers.

Equipment & Machines:
General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.

Attendance:
Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.• Part time remote support is offered after a probationary period.

Must be well-organized with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Must be willing to travel as needed. Must take and pass a drug test and background check as well as a motor vehicle records check. Must be a US citizen.

General office equipment including PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and other miscellaneous office equipment.
