Network Engineer / Top Secret clearance (VG00482)

SAIC has an opening for a Network Engineer located in Washington, DC.

Clearance required to be considered: Active Top Secret with SCI eligibility

Purpose of the Position

Provide Network Administration for the integration of a large enterprise system as part of a complex Cisco distributed team environment. Provides systems integration utilizing Cisco technologies and ability to implement the latest network technologies such as VOIP, Optical, SAN, VPN, routing and switching, IDS, Content Switching, Load Balancing and enterprise class switching. Required to install, troubleshoot, repair, and maintain Cisco VOIP/ Network equipment on the LAN/WAN, test and turn up data circuits, trunks, PRI’s and network links in Cisco Routers, switches, wireless access points and Voice Gateways. Provides Cisco systems integration support, develops network, designs, and documents the execution of complex installation procedures. Capable of reviewing, evaluating and deriving requirements for installation and deployments across Cisco network with the ability to design and document integration and deployment plans. Perform analysis of test results, and prepares comprehensive network and VoIP system-level evaluation metrics reports which verify and validate network performance. Writes discrepancy reports and performs integration regression testing to verify incorporated fixes to network, components, subsystems and systems. Ability to interfaces with all levels of program management, engineering and customers, and travel to deployment sites as required.

 
Duties & Responsibilities
 

Responsible for the maintenance the operation of multi-user network infrastructure, including coordination with network administrators at multiple levels to include setting up administrator and service accounts, maintaining system documentation, tuning system performance. Maintains Cisco network equipment for multiple remote sites across several organizations supporting remote sites and makes recommendations to purchase hardware and software, coordinates installation and provides backup recovery. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of network resources.

 

·         Submit, track and coordinate execution of Information Resource Management (IRM) Change Advisory Board (ICAB) submissions. 

·         Provide daily reports on the status of all open ICABs and Special Projects during weekly meetings.

·         Provide technical guidance, support and training to other team members in troubleshooting and operational support procedures in order to ensure system integrity.

·         Install, configure and maintain a wide variety of networking equipment and cabling.

·         Monitor, evaluate, and resolve system performance issues in a proactive manner.

·         Evaluate, design, develop and maintain data networking and VOIP systems (hardware and software) for multiple clients thorough the United States.

·         Analyze network characteristics (e.g., traffic type, latency, transmission speeds, packet loss, and throughput), troubleshoot problems and recommend procurement, removals, and modifications to network design and configuration.

·         Plan and conduct installations, transitions, conversions and cutovers of IP network systems and required network components (switches, routers, wireless access point, voice gateways and servers).

·         Perform network and VoIP assessments to troubleshoot and optimize network performance for data and voice traffic.

·         Perform hardware/software upgrades, network maintenance, overall security, functional configuration and patching of operating systems and 3rd party applications.

·         Coordinates the remote testing of products in other areas.

·         Reviews and prepares documentation for systems, tests and installation of software.

·         Investigates and recommends methods and techniques to be used for obtaining solutions. Initiates preventive maintenance on the network systems as well as repair to network/environment problems.

·         Administers and/or oversees systems/environment solutions for multiple projects with varying schedules which are critical to the success of special projects programs

.         Performs work, as Cisco Network Administrator for the Classified and Unclassified closed domains  .         Development, delivery, support, documentation, and related services ensuring high reliability and optimal availability of the environments and associated services.

·         Classified closed domain duties include, but are not limited to; installation, configuration and troubleshooting of the closed environments and includes associated clients and peripherals.

·         Monitor, evaluate, and resolve system performance issues in a proactive manner.

·         Responsible for overall security management of Classified closed environment and follows best practices recommendations and process.

Qualifications


Minimum Qualifications
  • Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Engineering or related field and 5 years experience.  Experience may substitute for minimum educational requirements. 
  • Work at a highly technical level to design, develop and implement network changes to Cisco Voice Gateways and routers, Cisco Catalyst Switches, troubleshooting T1 circuits and voice traffic over an MPLS.
  • Deep understanding of TCP/IP, SIP and PSTN concepts and protocols.
  • Experience with third party network analyzers and management tools.
  • The following technical certifications are highly desirable: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA Voice, Routing & Switching), Cisco Certified Unified Wireless Networking.
  • Demonstrated experience with complex multi-site network design and troubleshooting, multilayered switch environment, Cisco routers and firewalls, VPN technologies, and implementing network monitoring.
  • Proven implementation and understanding of current WAN topologies.
  • Respond to system problems by analyzing the problem, formulating a solution, and quickly repairing the system to avoid costly interruption of services to end users. 
  • Maintain knowledge of hardware, software, and/or systems products to continuously improve system utilization, performance and financial benefits. 
  • Must have an active Top Secret security clearance with SCI eligibility 
 
Required Qualifications
  • Act as primary or escalation contact as appropriate
  • At least 5 years of experience performing Cisco network and routers operations; enterprise level network support and design and enterprise level telephony support and design.
  • A self-starter, capable of working both independently and in team environments.
  • Strong customer service, organizational skills, knowledge of applicable DoD/Government policies and procedures.
  • Demonstrated exceptional ability to troubleshoot complex systems required.
  • Experience with setup, configuration, operation and troubleshooting standard UNIX applications and network protocols required.
  • Solid understanding of industry standard availability and security practices required.
  • Solid understanding of data backup and recovery processes and associated hardware required.
  • Solid verbal and written communication skills required
  • College degree preferred with or preferred certifications: Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA)
