Network Engineer OCONUS - Iraq TS-SCI Required

Under broad direction, the SATCOM FSR/Network Engineer will provide technical leadership in the planning, investigation, design, and implementation of physical and logical communications solutions having a network-wide impact.

This includes hardware and software configurations.  The Systems Administrator coordinates with network and system engineers. Serves as the subject matter expert on satellite systems.  Plans, evaluates, and coordinates installation and/or reconfiguration of hardware and software elements of ISR systems.  Maintains technical expertise in all areas of DKET, XKAT, VSAT systems, to include hardware and software interconnection and interfacing, such as network interconnectivity etc. May propose solutions to management to ensure all SATCOM requirements based on future needs and current usage, configuring such solutions to optimize cost savings. As well as providing technical leadership in the planning, investigation, design, and implementation of physical and logical communications solutions having network-wide impact. Provides solutions that incorporate integration of digital encoding formats, line codes, and timing concepts across engineering disciplines and environments. Influences team members, the customer, and vendors to define, analyze, and provide solutions for the customer's voice, data, and image communications requirements. Prepares complex workprints and schematics to define and illustrate entire network structures and solutions. Identifies and recommends new design tools for use in communications projects. Evaluates projected corporate network usage and provides and implements media solutions. Participates in and influences marketing proposals and studies by providing costing models, reports, and technical solutions for network-wide projects. Identifies product modifications and influences vendors to incorporate these changes into their products. Plans, designs, and implements network managements systems to monitor, diagnose, control, and measure performance of multiple communication networks. Identifies, analyzes, and recommends new network administrative systems for entire networks to ensure accurate network inventory and timely implementation.

Responsibilities
  • Provides regular monitoring and system analysis regarding short and long-range planning for in-house systems.
  • Applies patches and upgrades to the systems as needed.
  • Prepares or ensures that appropriate system documentation exists, including operational instructions.
  • May coordinate third-party maintenance for SATCOM equipment.
  • Installs all new hardware, systems, and software for SATCOM systems.
  • Monitor SSPA, LNA/LNB, up and down converters and provide technical support to optimize utilization.
  • Provide training to users on SATCOM systems.
  • Attends weekly video teleconferences. 
  • Report Outages, Service Requirements and repairs to SATCOM Manager and through Service Now Portal
  • Maintain 100% accountability of all onsite equipment and spare parts. 
  • Performs troubleshooting analysis of SSPA, LNA/LNB, up and down converters, Fiber Optic/Coax/Ethernet cables that support satellite systems.
  • Provides monthly reports of SATCOM issues.
  • Maintain Maintenance Schedule (Daily, Weekly Monthly)
Qualifications

Qualifications:

  • Applicant must have a US Department of Defense (DoD) TOP Secret-SCI security clearance.
  • Bachelor's degree in appropriate discipline, or in the absence of a bachelor's degree, 6 years of related experience.
  • Requires a valid U.S. driver’s license.
  • Requires a valid U.S. Passport
  • Successful completion of CONUS Readiness Center (CRC) required.
  • Strategic or tactical multi-channel satellite communications experience.
  • Strong grasp of satellite communications operational theory.
  • Ability to routinely lift and carry items up to 70 pounds.
  • Must be hands-on person with the knowledge to operate and configure the following equipment to include Antenna controller, drive systems, satellite acquisition, HPA/TWT high power amplifiers, LNA/LNB low noise amplifiers, Fiber/Coax/Ethernet Cable Work, FDMA/TDMA modems (satellite modems), Up-converters and down-converters
  • Prior experience with: Test equipment: power meter, signal generator, spectrum analyzer, and digital multi-meters, RF/IF cable building and repair, Electrical AC/DC power troubleshooting, De-Ice systems, Dehydration systems, Waveguide and switched – circular and linear polarization, and GPS systems

Preferred Experience working with:

  • Cisco routers
  • ViaSat Linkway Modems
  • PBX - T1/E1, FXS, Adds/Drops
