Network Engineer

Northrop Grumman in Linthicum, MD needs a qualified Network Engineer to perform key assignments for Mission Systems software development lab environments. This position supports large heterogeneous unclassified computer networks that includes Linux, Windows and VMware Virtualization with emphasis on supporting software development teams.


Responsibilities include network design and evaluation, hardware/software installation, upgrades, troubleshooting, repair, monitoring, tuning, automation scripting and general user support. Duties will also include maintaining system
documentation, developing infrastructure support procedures, and providing security support.


The selected candidate will lead the design, implementation and maintenance of complex systems and networks. Additionally, he/she will coordinate maintenance activities with other team members and users to produce least impact
solutions.


The incumbent will be expected to provide technical leadership to internal and external personnel on highly complex network system installation processes. Mentors and provides guidance to less experienced personnel.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in computer science and 5 years of experience or other closely related engineering discipline. 3 years of relevant experience with a Master's degree.
Proficiency with networking technologies such as routers, switches, encryption, firewalls, and client/server systems.
Proficiency with network architectures.
Proficiency with TCP/IP networking, computer and operating systems.
Proficiency with network security principles, threats, and vulnerabilities.
Ability to solve problems quickly and completely; analytical problem-solving skills; adept at root-cause analysis and mitigation.
Ability to work independently while being conscious of how your work interacts with that of others
Ability to multi-task projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively.


Preferred Qualifications:


Experience with VMware Virtualization products: vSphere, NSX, vCenter Server, Horizon View, vRealize
A working knowledge of Linux platforms authenticating with Windows platforms.
Familiarity with Cisco and Juniper hardware and operating systems would be a plus.
Understanding of Networking technologies including:
o Port security
o VLANs, VLAN trunking, Link Aggregation (LACP, LAG), Spanning Tree
o Layer 3 Routing, CIDR subnetting
o Switch clustering (virtual chassis)
o Software Defined Networking & Micro-segmentation
o Understanding of VXLAN and logical networking concepts
Solid understanding of the OSI model
Superior written and oral communication skills
Ability to work flex and overtime hours with some weekend hours expected.
Experience with network automation using technologies such as PowerShell, Ansible, Python, JavaScript
CCNA or CCNP certification or equivalent is a plus
