Position Overview:

Provides a leadership role in the design, implementation and maintenance of DEA IT network infrastructure.

Important Information:

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

•Maintain awareness of network engineering best practices and the application of these practices on the organization’s infrastructure.

•Confidently articulate and manage the secure deployment of firewalls, switches, reverse proxies, load balancers and routers as well as the secure management of the network devices they operate over.

•Report network plans, upgrades, issues, status and statistics to stakeholders as well as team members.

•Responsible for the ongoing management and monitoring of overall network systems, to include production, development and training systems.

•Responsible for planning and implementing the processes used to configure, install, operate, replace, maintain, and troubleshoot local and wide area network (LAN/WAN) devices in a highly secure and resilient infrastructure.

•Responsible for developing and maintaining network documentation accurately and timely, to include LAN/WAN topology diagrams, current device configurations, change plans and upgrade procedures.

•Responsible for implementing and reporting on disaster recovery plans of network equipment (e.g., routers/switches/firewalls/network security appliances), including backup and restore procedures.

•Responsible for understanding and articulating network requirements, to include: identifying sources for required products and services, maintain proficiency with legacy systems, assess relevant technologies and technical approaches, recommend relevant solutions, estimate costs and benefits.

•Responsible for designing, developing, deploying, and testing network hardware and software using government standards and industry best practices.

•Install, test, certify and troubleshoot data communications wiring of various types (Fiber/shielded copper/unshielded copper/coax wiring).

•Plan, implement and test secure virtual private network (VPN) protocols for implementation on private and public wide area network circuits.

•Coordinate with various team members to understand networking and routing needs within the organization’s infrastructure.

•Expedient in troubleshooting and isolating faults, recovering services and analyzing incidents.

POSITION REQUIREMENTS:

•U.S. Citizen

•Must be able to pass the DEA Clearance process

•Ability to obtain/maintain a DOD Security Clearance; Active Secret Clearance is preferred

•Must be able to pass a drug test and background check

•Bachelor’s degree in computer science, electrical engineering or related field (8 years of directly related experience will substitute for education), and 1 year of supervisory experience.

•Minimum of 6 years of experience in the field of network engineering

•Experience in planning and deploying a secure network infrastructure using government and industry best practices, to include LAN/WAN and software defined networks, peer exchanges.

•Experience with planning, implementing and monitoring network security including firewalls, proxies, ACL, IPSec, VPN, SSL/TLS, PKI.

•Hands on experience that demonstrates subject matter expertise and proficiency with Cisco Switches, Routers and Adaptive Security Appliance (ASA) Firewalls, Palo Alto Firewalls and Application Load Balancers, Cisco ACS/TACACS.

•Hands on experience on Linux and using scripting tools (Python, Perl, Ruby, etc) to automate network processes, diagnosis and monitoring.

•Experience with network applications including VoIP, encryption, SSL offloading, content delivery

•Experience with managing, monitoring and troubleshooting networks, including: IPv4 and IPv6 addressing, TCP/IP fundamentals (packet level analysis), various routing protocols (e.g., BGP, OSPF), access control models.

•Experience with network diagnostic, monitoring and analysis tools (e.g., SolarWinds, wireshark, SNMP) and QoS within a network infrastructure.

•Shows organizational and mentoring skills to articulate plans and best practices to team members.

•Must have and maintain industry recognized network CCNA certification or similar practical proficiency and working toward more advanced certifications or proficiencies such as Cisco Certified Network Professional (CCNP), Cisco Certified Internetwork Expert (CCIE) or Cisco Certified Design Expert (CCDE). Industry or vendor-specific certifications and training a plus.

• Must be available 24 hours per day and 7 days per week to respond to mission critical trouble calls, as needed.
