Network Engineer

Jacobs is currently seeking a Network Engineer to support a government customer facility in the Arlington, VA area. Duties may include:
  • Implement, monitor and maintain local and wide area network servers that link to numerous computer platforms, operating systems and network topologies
  • Utilize understanding of server hardware and software features
  • Implement new configurations
  • Use and/or apply principles, theories, and concepts related to systems administration
  • Maintain smooth operation of multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators

Basic Qualifications:
  • BS degree in a computer or system science discipline from an accredited college or university and five (5) years to eight (8) years of progressive, relevant experience, or any equivalent combination of education, experience, training and certifications.
  • Active TS/SCI with the ability to obtain and maintain special accesses
  • Experience with Linux, CISCO, and Windows server Operating Systems
  • Knowledge of industry practices and standards
  • Experience with virtualization servers and zoning
  • Knowledge of Storage Area Network (SAN) and Network Attached Storage (NAS) technologies including storage appliances
  • Knowledge of hardware and software architecture
  • Experience with setting up administrator and service accounts, tuning system performance, installing system wide software and allocating mass storage space
  • Experience with creating and maintaining technical documentation using Microsoft Office products (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint, Visio)
  • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE) - Server Infrastructure
Additional Qualifications:
  • 5-10 years’ experience in computer networking systems
  • CompTIA Security+ Certification
  • Military certificates of training
  • Previous experience as a Network and Systems Administrator
Physical Requirements:
Generally an office environment involving inside work depending on task. An inside environment may be in a cubicle (considerations: close quarters, low to moderate noise, bright or dim lighting) or a server room including various environmental conditions including warm and cold climates. Needs to be able to work well with co-workers and all levels of management.

Work Environment:
Office environment. The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadline pressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork and cooperation with other members across the customer’s organization. Work may involve sitting or standing for extended periods of time. Position may require filing, typing, and reading from a computer screen. Must have sufficient mobility, included but not limited to: bending, reaching, turning and kneeling to complete daily duties in a timely and efficient manner. Must be able to lift and carry up to 60 pounds.

Equipment & Machines:
Ability to operate networking and office equipment such as a Servers, Routers, Hubs, Cat-5/Fiber Cabling and other miscellaneous office equipment.

Attendance is critical at all times. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday through Friday. However, times and days may vary depending on business requirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks and be available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situation occur.

Must demonstrate professional behavior at all times when dealing with customers, management and co-workers. Must be able to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Grooming and dress must be appropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to the employee or others. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhances productivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation. Must be able to interface with individuals at all levels of the organization both verbally and in writing. Must be well-organized with the ability to coordinate and prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Must work well under pressure to meet deadline requirements. Independent personal transportation to office or work site is required.
