Job Overview: (Network Engineer 3)

Specifying, Designing, Installation, Configuring, Securing and Testing Network Infrastructures (LAN/WAN) systems for government and private companies including design, configuration and monitoring. Integrating and implementing network systems.

Due to DoD Contract requirements, applicants must have a TS/SCI security clearance.

Job Description:

  • Participate in interactions with internal and external clients to define requirements, discuss project progress, and resolve issues as they arise.
  • Understand and support design of complex Navy networks.
  • Provide expert understanding of configuring, testing, and maintaining LAN/WAN equipment and related network services.
  • Research new technologies to fully understand implementation requirements and implications for integration with other systems.
  • Make making recommendations for improved operational efficiency for increasingly complex Navy network systems.
  • Work with SYSCOMS and other government entities to support integrated operations and support services concepts.
  • Work under minimal supervision with moderate latitude for use of initiative and independent judgment.
  • Support Systems Engineers with enterprise architecture and model based systems engineering activities.
  • Monitors system performance and implements performance tuning.
  • Able to apply analytical skills to support process improvement, studies, and analysis projects.
  • Able to interact with and brief senior leadership.

Job Requirements:

The incumbent must have at least eight (8) to ten (10) years of experience architecting and implementing network technologies and end-user support.  The candidate must possess a BS in engineering /computer science or a related field.

  • Must be well versed in the TCP/IP protocol and its routing.
  • Working knowledge of at least two (2) of the following systems:  Unix/Linux, Cisco IOS, PAN-OS and Windows Server.
  • Working knowledge of Cisco routers, switches and wireless
  • Working knowledge of routing protocols and switching technologies
  • Understanding of Firewalls, VPN, IPS
  • Working knowledge of Server Class PC hardware such as Compaq, HP, IBM or Dell and workstation/desktop class hardware such as Dell
  • Understanding LAN/WAN medias and protocols

Desired Skills and Experience:

  • Knowledge of the following systems: UNIX/LINUX, CISCO IOS and Windows Server. 
  • Abilities:

  • Reach by extending hands or arms in any direction.
  • Have finger dexterity in order to manipulate objects with fingers rather than whole hands or arms, for example, using a keyboard.

  • Knowledge of Cisco routers, switches, wireless infrastructure, Firewalls, VPN, and IPS
  • Experience in the use of routing protocols and switching technologies, LAN/WAN medias and protocols
  • Knowledge of network technologies: LAN, WAN, SNMP, STP, HSRP, VRRP, VSS, GRE, IPsec, NHRP, DNS, QoS, BGP, OSPF, 802.1x, MPLS. 
  • Desired CCNA, CCNP, or related network certifications
  • IAT Level –II Certified
  • Security+
  • Strong teamwork skills and leadership abilities.
  • Knowledge of Department of Defense Information Network (DODIN).
  • Knowledge of or experience with the U.S. Navy/Navy networks.
