Network Designer - TS/SCI Polygraph

Jacobs has an opening for Network Engineer with an active TS/SCI Polygraph to support a customer in the Reston, VAarea. Duties include:


  • Installs, configures, and supports an organization’s local area network (LAN), wide area network (WAN), customer networks, Intranet and Internet and other data communications systems or a segment of a network system
  • Maintains and provide support for network hardware and software, serversand appliances
  • Performs a full range of complex network designs encompassing multiple technologies within a single network
  • Evaluates new network technologies and makes recommendations to project managers regarding the integration of these technologies into the existing network
  • Plans new configurations for integration into the network, using knowledge of the performance characteristics of the systems being added to the network and the specifications for network interfaces to insure effective integration and optimal network performance
  • Provides support in the translation of business requirements into network requirements, designs and orders
  • The overarching security requirements for the customer network add to the complexity of these positions
  • Additional duties:
    • Diagnose hardware and software problems, and replace defective components
    • Perform data backups and disaster recovery operations
    • Maintain and administer computer networks and related computing environments, including computer hardware, systems software, applications software and all configurations
    • Plan, coordinate, and implement network security measures in order to protect data, software, and hardware
    • Perform long term O&M activities to include troubleshooting and problem resolution


  • Active TS/SCI polygraph required
  • BS degree in a computer orsystem science discipline from an accredited college or university and ten (10)to fourteen (14) years of progressive, relevant experience, or an MS degree ina computer or system science discipline and eight (8) to twelve (12) years ofprogressive experience, or a Ph.D. degree in a computer or system sciencediscipline and four (4) to seven (7) years of progressive experience.
  • Relevant certifications will be considered equivalent to three (3) months of specialized experience
  • Minimum of 5 years’ experience specific to Network Engineering
  • Knowledge of Information Technology Infrastructure associated with the cloud environments
  • Working knowledge of Communication and Information Security policies and practices
  • Experience in managing VMware
  • Experience with Cisco Appliances (ASA, and Switch Technology)
  • Experience with working as a Linux Administrator and Microsoft Systems Administrator
  • Desired Certifications: Cisco CCNP, Cisco CCNA, Cisco Security +, CISSP
Essential Functions:
Physical Requirements: Most work will be done at a desk or computer.

Work Environment: General Office environment.The work environment is fast-paced and sometimes involves extreme deadlinepressures. The nature of the work requires a high degree of teamwork andcooperation with other members of the staff as well as individuals across theCompany and Customers.

Equipment & Machines: General office equipmentincluding PC/laptop, Fax, Copiers, Shredder, Printers, Telephone, and othermiscellaneous office equipment.

Attendance: Attendance is critical at alltimes. Must be able to work a 40-hour workweek, normally Monday throughFriday. However, times and days may vary depending on businessrequirements. Needs to be available to work overtime during critical peaks andbe available to meet last minute requests for overtime should the situationoccur.


Other Essential Functions:

Must be able to communicateeffectively both verbally and in writing

Grooming and dress must beappropriate for the position and must not impose a safety risk/hazard to theemployee or others. Must put forward a professional behavior that enhancesproductivity and promotes teamwork and cooperation.

Mustbe able to interface with individuals at all levels of the organization bothverbally and in writing. Must be well-organized with the ability to coordinateand prioritize multiple tasks simultaneously. Must work well underpressure to meet deadline requirements. Must be willing to travel as needed.Must take and pass a drug test and background check as well as a motor vehicle records check. Must be a U.S. Citizen.
