Multi-Disciplined Engr II - Materials Engineering

Job Description:

The Materials Engineering Department within the Mechanical Engineering Directorate is looking for talented Materials Engineers to contribute to our expanding core competencies.Within the Department, Materials Engineers work through all stages of the product life offering support from design to production to refurbishment.The position would include offering inputs on design requirements, supplier support, production support and failure analysis of fielded equipment.

This position will require interaction with senior personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations and / or suppliers with some travel required.A background in metals, advanced composites and plastics is desired with a focus on materials and process engineering.

This position can be Salary Grade G07 (Multi-disciplined Engineer II) or Salary Grade G08 (Senior Multi-disciplined Engineer I) based upon the applicant’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, leadership, experience and responsibility requirements of the position.

U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Required Skills:

• Technical writing skills

• Minimum of 2 years prior relevant industry experience in metals or plastics.

Desired Skills:

• Working knowledge of military and commercial materials and process specifications.

• Knowledge of Design of Experiments, Six Sigma and statistical techniques

• Qualified Six Sigma Specialist or equivalent

• Active DoD Clearance (Secret, Confidential)

• Master's degree

Required Education (including Major):

•BS required in Materials Science and Engineering, Metallurgy, Welding, Plastics or equivalent technical degree.
