Mgr II Software Engrg - Configuration Management

An opportunity exists within the Integrated Warfare and Sensor Systems Software (IWSSS) department in Woburn, MA, Marlborough, MA, St. Petersburg, FL or San Diego, CA for a Section Manager of a Software Configuration Management section.

The IWSSS department contributes to the success of Raytheon Integrated Defense Systems (IDS) by providing software configuration management (SWCM) capabilities, and develop SWCM processes for all SED programs. The Department is a critical source of support for both proposals and development teams, including internal research and development (R&D) efforts as well as support to Systems Engineering CM tasks.
Successful candidates will manage and work with a team of software configuration management engineers to provide SWCM capabilities and discipline to the programs.

Job Description
The successful candidate will perform line management of 15 to 25 software engineers within the Department with the primary responsibility of ensuring that each employee has suitable work assignments and opportunities for growth and advancement. Section Management duties include performance development and appraisal, salary and manpower planning and ensuring adherence to company policies. Candidates will contribute significantly to the technical oversight of employees in support of their work assignments, and will be responsible for supporting a major task on a program within the department, including a possible leadership or key individual contributor role. The candidate will act as a key leader and mentor, employing leadership, presence and influence skills, and fostering teamwork and interdependent execution.
The Section Manager will participate in goal setting; performance reviews; department ranking sessions; interviewing new candidates; developing training and process improvement plans; providing staff promotion recommendations; contributing to configuration management plans; and managing audit/assessment activities.

Job Responsibilities
  • Responsible for the sustainment, assessment and development of the section
  • Ensure section members adhere to Raytheon policy, vision, values and goals
  • Communications flow-down to the section
  • Performance development including collecting and providing performance feedback to section members.
  • Goal development with section members
  • Career and job assignment mentoring
  • Participates in organizational-level discussions/planning for Software Configuration Management activities.
  • Support a major program task within the department

Required Skills:
  • 8+ years working in/with software engineering, systems engineering, or configuration management.
  • Experience in software and systems development processes
  • General knowledge of Configuration Management principles
  • Experience in functional or program leadership role
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to interact effectively with customers, and other Raytheon organizations.
  • This position requires an Existing SECRET Security Clearance. Except in rare circumstances, only US Citizens are eligible for a clearance

Desired Skills:
  • MS in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or other STEM field
  • Proven skills in leadership and management
  • High energy, self-starting team player who achieves goals and continuous improvement
  • Knowledge of software and systems development processes, including CM, Quality, and Tools
  • Knowledge of Agile processes
  • Prior experience in functional or program leadership role
  • Earned Value Certification
  • Basis of Estimate (BOE) Certification
  • Software Build Tool experience

Required Education (including Major):
  • B.S./B.A. in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering, Mathematics, or other STEM field. Or 8 years of related experience in lieu of a degree.
