Mechanical Engineer (Springfield, VA) - Secret Clearance

Job Description

POSITION SUMMARY:
Provides mechanical engineering consultation and perspectives on power generation systems with an understanding of acquisition life cycle processes and procedures. Performs a variety of complex engineering tasks of an analysis, design, or test nature in one or more of the client's product/service areas requiring strong technical skills in mechanical or hardware engineering disciplines. Participates as a team member or lead on project teams.
 
RESPONSIBILTIES:
Perform in all phases of hardware design, development, and documentation. Perform fundamental engineering duties in preliminary designs, performing tests, taking measurements and performing system analyses or simulations. In addition, they must apply standard practices and techniques in specific engineering assignments and prepare data and documentation when applicable. Instruct, as required, engineering technicians and perform duties associated with Logistical, Mechanical, Production and/or Value Engineering. Support the preparation of studies, plans and analyses in support of internal and/or external customers and shall initiate and/or participate with customer contacts to refine customer needs in response to changes in dynamic environments. Assist in the planning, implementation, testing, documentation, and maintenance of solutions for the host of power generation systems, subsystems and products. Provide end-to-end project management support of product life cycle. Provide a total systems perspective including a technical understanding of relationships, dependencies and requirements of hardware and software components. Coordinate with the customer and other team members in order to ensure problem solution, appropriate risk reduction, and user satisfaction. Make recommendations, as needed, on test and evaluation strategies for major systems installations. Interface and/or communicate with executive/senior level personnel within the project office and other Government/Contractor organizations on a daily basis. Attend designated conferences and meetings, gather and transcribe minutes, and perform other related administrative management functions. Perform reviews and documentation functions of ECPs under consideration by the Government for incorporation into hardware items and systems to identify and verify all possible impacts the ECP may have on existing drawings, technical manuals and Repair Parts and Special Tools Lists (RPSTLs). Assist in reviewing and/or preparing Notices of Revisions (NORs) for all ECPs
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE:
Typically requires bachelor's degree or equivalent, and seven to nine years of related experience.
 
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Normal demands associated with an office environment. Ability to work on computer for long periods, and communicate with individuals by telephone, email and face to face. Some travel may be required.
