Mechanical Engineer/Principal Mechanical Engineer

Northrop Grumman - Mission Systems Sector - Undersea Systems Division is seeking a self-starting, motivated Mechanical Engineerto join our dedicated field team. The team designs, develops, tests, delivers, and operates advanced prototype, unique marine systems.

The chosen candidate will have the opportunity to support a variety of unique mechanical equipment designed for marine applications. This involves a broad spectrum of engineering disciplines such as hydraulic system design, component selection, troubleshooting, and repair; structural analysis; thermal analysis; pressure vessels; material selection; and metallic and non-metallic fabrication techniques that will leverage the candidate's existing skills and challenge them to develop new skills.

The Mechanical Engineer will have the opportunity to innovate conceptual designs involving hydraulics and pneumatics, structures and mechanisms, and heavy lift systems. The systems operate in marine environments so strength, weight efficiency, and proper material selection for corrosion considerations are all important. The corresponding mechanical analysis of the design, detailed drawing creation sufficient to communicate design intent, subsequent design changes and documentation, planning paperwork for production and attendant production support, system installation, testing, operation, training, and maintenance procedure documentation are all part of the design process. Employees must be able to work closely with customer personnel and other engineers and work within difficult schedules.

Engineers are encouraged to deploy at sea with customer personnel for 40-50 day durations or deploy to remote ports for several week durations on deployment teams or field installation teams, respectively. These deployments offer engineers the opportunity to experience and evaluate firsthand the real world performance of the systems they have designed and built or lead field installation teams. Employees are compensated for deployments.
