The Mechanical Subsystems Directorate (MSD) is seeking several Mid-Level Mechanical Engineers at our Tucson, AZ, plant site to support multiple programs both in development and production.

This Mechanical Engineering position performs in alignment to expectations in the design development and production support areas associated with complex mechanical designs, validation principals, qualification processes, procurement, and production processes across a designs life cycle.Development work may include requirements evaluation & definition, concept development, DFMAs, PFMAs, margin analysis, technical data package (TDP) development, application of geometric dimensioning and tolerance principals, engineering test principals, data accumulation, design validation test, critical design principals, preparation of technical analysis reports, and presenting in design reviews.
As a Mechanical Engineer, responsibilities will include developing technical solutions to a wide range of complex problems related to the design, manufacture, integration and test of various mechanical sub-systems both in the engineering lab environments and the factory floor internally and externally at suppliers encompassing support of first article inspections, work instruction reviews, material dispositions, FRACAS principles, risk assessments, and collaboration with Engineering, Operations, Supply Chain, and Quality (EOSQ).As a Mechanical Engineer, decisions are data driven in nature and require preparing technical justification analysis reports as well as presenting to a variety of Engineering Review Boards relative to hardware dispositions and proposed TDP updates.
This position will require interaction with senior personnel on significant technical matters often requiring coordination between organizations and / or suppliers with some travel required.
Note:This position can be Salary Grade E02 (Mechanical Engineer II) or Salary Grade E03 (Senior Mechanical Engineer I) based upon the applicant’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, leadership, experience and responsibility requirements of the position.
Required Education, Experience and Skills:
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science, Math, or other Engineering discipline
Two (2) years of professional experience in mechanical design and / or production support
Proficiency with CAD solid modeling tools and analysis tools
Experience with Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerance
Must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
Must currently have or be able to obtain a Department of Defense Secret clearance
U.S. Citizenship is required
Desired Education, Experience and Skills:
Advanced degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace, Engineering Science, Math, or other Engineering discipline
Strong interpersonal and communication skills; both verbally and written
Ability to work in teams or independently, flexible, demonstrates initiative
Experience in mechanical sub-systems packaging, materials, thermal, structural analysis, energetics principals, control systems, interconnect, airframe, or large assembly development
Support tasks as experience allows relative to both design development and production support
Working knowledge of RMS processes and procedures
