Job Description:

IIS Hardware & Infrastructure Engineering's Electrical & Mechanical Design Department leads the mechanical and electrical hardware design and analysis, development and production of DoD, international military and COTS Systems. The Mechanical Design and Analysis Section, located in Indianapolis, IN is currently seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager.

The Mechanical Design and Analysis Section Manager will lead a team of 15-20 Mechanical Engineers working a variety of development and sustainment tasks ranging from aircraft and ground structures, electronic enclosures, chassis/rack/shelter development, circuit board development, system interconnections/cable design & selection, power distribution design and COTS selection, configuration and documentation. As a Front Line Leader (FLL), you will be responsible for working with other Mechanical and Electrical Section Managers to ensure the proper staffing of programs and proposals. The Section Manager is also responsible for the performance and career development of all the members of the section, providing open and honest feedback to section members developing Talent and ensuring adequate resources to meet the skill-set demands of our programs. You should be a highly motivated “self-starter” able to lead by example, possessing strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Section Managers are also expected to perform Key roles on Programs and perform special assignments as required by the Department Manager.

Other Relevant Responsibilities:
  • Demonstrate the development of staff to meet the needs of the Indy staffing/training/development plans
  • Demonstrate measurable Execution and Bidding productivity goals for every program on which the section has Engineering content
  • Direct line management activities for employees in the Section, including performance management, career development and resource allocation
  • Work closely with program managers to ensure customer satisfaction
  • Rapidly respond to customer RFIs and RFPs to shape customer acquisition strategies
  • Participation in proposal processes to develop and review cost estimates/proposals packages
  • Participate as a member of the Indy Leadership Team, flowing communication between the program and engineering department
Required Skills:
  • 8+ years’ experience in mechanical proposal development, design, documentation and fabrication of DoD and FAA programs.
  • EVMS Certified and professional exposure to EVMS or similar budget tracking system
  • Broad based hardware engineering background
  • Experience in Task Management or other Lead role on Medium-Large Development jobs.
  • Excellent Interpersonal and Multi-tasking Skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Expert knowledge in one or more of the following System Interconnections, System Integration, COTS Integration, Power Distribution.
  • Experience with program cost and schedule monitoring and reporting.
  • Ability to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Security Clearance
Desired Skills:
  • Experience as an IPT or CPT Lead
  • Very strong organizational and team development skills
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
  • Experience developing and managing product line artifacts
  • An active DoD or federal agency security clearance
Required Education (including Major):

Requires a degree in Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) with emphasis in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering and 8+ years of related work experience or 16+ years of related work experience in lieu of a STEM degree
