Mechanical Engineer II - Platform Integration

Job Description:
Raytheon's Mechanical Engineering Directorate (MED) provides engineering design, integration and production to a wide range of hardware in Raytheon's Integrated Defense Systems (IDS).

The Platform Integration Department leads mechanical design, development and integration of platform systems. This includes shelter systems, hardware integration, naval systems, cable & interconnections, as well as facility development & site integration. The department is comprised of individuals with technical expertise and experience in hardware design, integration and production support.

The Platform Integration Department is looking for an experienced Mechanical Engineer to support large scale fixed site radar, ground mobile radar and sea-based radar programs in the design, development, and manufacturing of cable and harness interconnect solutions. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Represent the Mechanical Engineering organization as the prime technical contact on contracts and projects with respect to cable & harness interconnect design
  • Factory and supplier support of product integration domestically and internationally
  • Participate with and/or lead and manage a small team during interconnect solution development, drawing generation, drawing release, and drawing change incorporation
  • Solve complex technical problems that require the regular use of ingenuity and creativity
  • Drawing generation, drawing release, and drawing change incorporation
  • Resolution of change requests from manufacturing or suppliers
  • Provide technical expertise for design reviews and resolving action items
  • Interface with other engineering disciplines and non-technical disciplines and interface with suppliers to resolve technical issuesUtilize CREO CAD tool for modeling and documentation creation.
U.S. Citizenship status is required as this position will need a U.S. Security Clearance within 1 year of start date.Except in rare circumstances, only U.S. citizens are eligible for a security clearance.

Required Skills:

2+ years of experience in areas such as:
  • Experience with interconnect component parts and their application
  • Experience working with major suppliers for interconnection
  • Components industry including connectors, backshells and wires
  • Experience in the development, review, and documentation of schematic diagrams, interconnection diagrams, cable assembly drawings and associated component control drawings
  • Experience with manufacturing within interconnect domain, including interconnect manufacturing and field troubleshooting
  • Expertise using CAD software, preferably Creo (Pro/ENGINEER)

Desired Skills:
  • Experience with component military specification, standards, test
    specifications and associated QPLs and QMLs associated with
    connectors, coaxial cables, multi-conductor cables, interconnection
    cable & wire and fiber-optic cables
    • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and hierarchy
    • Ability to effectively multi-task
    • Effective communication skills, with the ability to work with and
    take direction from functional management and program leads
    • PTC Windchill Product Data Management experience
    • CREO Schematic experience
    • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office
    • Six Sigma Specialist
  • Ability to find work and execute to a higher level strategy independently, without the need for supervision
  • Existing US Secret level security clearance or the ability to obtain one
  • Experience in working in small teams in the development of cable/harness design and documentation, including cost and schedule management

    Required Education (including Major):
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering
