Mechanical Engineer 2/3

Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to become part of Northrop Grumman’s Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Battle Command System (IBCS) Engineering team in Huntsville, AL responsible for leading the technical aspects of the IBCS Engagement Operations Center (EOC) and Integrated Fire Control Network (IFCN) Relay, which includes component and system research and development, and physical layout. The qualified applicant researches, plans, designs and develops mechanical products and systems such as instruments, controls, machines and mechanical systems for production. Applies research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.

This position may be filled at higher grade based on the requirements below.


This position may be filled as a level 2 or 3.

Basic qualifications for a level 2:

BS degree in Engineering or related STEM discipline with a minimum of 2 years of related experience.

Basic qualifications for a level 3:

BS degree in Engineering or related STEM discipline with a minimum of 5 years of related experience.

Basic qualifications for a level 2 and 3:

  • Experience working with tactical shelters or command post design and development.
  • Experience in the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
  • Solid Works and AutoCAD experience
  • Experience in system architecture development
  • Experience working with Microsoft Office products (including Visio)
  • US Citizenship Required
  • Must have an active/current Secret Clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Standard Integrated Command Post System (SICPS) or Command Post Platform design experience.
  • Experience using SAP and JIRA to support design configurations and issue tracking/resolution.
  • Utilization of tools and methodologies for full lifecycle support
  • Experience developing System Requirements documents.
  • Experience engaging with subsystem suppliers and provide cognizant management and oversight as required.
  • Experience presenting complex engineering design and concepts.
  • Experience conducting design level trades to develop and mature the technical design accounting for component obsolescence and technology insertion while maintain requirements compliance for the major end item (MEI).
  • Experience communicating design solutions as part of a multi-disciplined team environment.
