MD-530 Instructor Pilot (IP) Trainer

       

Job Description: The US Government has a pilot training requirement for the Afghan National Defense Security Forces (ANDSF). The MD-530 Instructor Pilot is part of the Afghanistan Enterprise Training Services Contract (ETSC) training support program in support of US Government efforts to develop a capable and self-sustaining Afghan Air Force (AAF). The employee is responsible for performing duties as an Instructor Pilot (IP) in the AAF MD-530 aircraft. Instructor Pilots will conduct Copilot and Air Mission Commander qualification, refresher, continuation training and evaluations of Afghan pilots in accordance with USG and AAF requirements. Conducts academic and hands-on performance training and administer evaluations to ensure aircrew proficiency and standardization of training. Relevant subject matter includes the training IAW the Convention on International Civil Aviation standards as defined by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) for aircraft systems, ground operations, general aircraft handling, instrument procedures, emergency procedures, crew resource management, tactical employment and Night Vision Goggle qualification.

Knowledge & Skills: US Army branch 15 Aviation Military Occupational Skills series or other military/commercial equivalent. Qualification in assigned aircraft before or incident to assignment. Documented completion of a manufacturer’s course of instruction, military flight training or a DoS program of instruction. Demonstrate proficiency and understanding of aircraft systems, components, and operations. Thorough knowledge of FAA and ICAO regulations pertinent to operational requirements. Knowledge of Word, PowerPoint, and Excel highly desired.

Work Location: Kabul Air Wing, KIA, Afghanistan or other locations in Afghanistan as required and determined by the United States Government.

Required Hours: Work may include nights, holidays, and weekends on short notice. Standard will be to conduct training sixty hours per week while OCONUS.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum of 1,500 Rotary Wing Flight Hours
  • MD-530F Instructor Pilot must be a previously qualified instructor in the MD-530, OH-58D, or AH-6 or possess a current FAA/CAA Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) Rating.
  • Shall have previous formal training with experience teaching basic rotary wing maneuvers during both day Visual Meteorological Conditions (VMC) conditions and night VMC conditions on Night Vision Goggles.  Minimum experience:
    • 100 Instructor Pilot Hours
    • 50 Night Vision Goggle (NVG) Instructor Hours
  • Shall have subject-matter expertise in at least one of the below areas.
    • Ground Instruction: to include, but is not limited to, topics ranging from aircraft systems, ground operations, general aircraft handling, instrument procedures, emergency procedures, crew resource management, and tactical employment.
    • Flight Instruction: to include, but is not limited to, topics ranging from checklist procedures, ground operations, general aircraft handling, instrument procedures, emergency procedures, crew resource management, and assist the AAF in their own version of tactical employment. Sorties shall consist of required currency training, upgrade training, and reoccurring annual flight evaluations.
  • Shall have subject-matter expertise in at least one of the below areas.
    • Institutional Instruction: train, advise and assist the AAF squadron on leadership development, intelligence support to operations, aircrew scheduling, training management, flight safety, maintenance management, Standardization and Evaluation management, operational mission management, and other ground duties relevant to operating a flying squadron.
  • Must currently have and maintain a FAA Second Class Medical Certificate
  • Must be a US Citizen 
  • Must be able to pass CENTCOM medical, dental and other CRC-related deployment requirements from CRC at Ft. Bliss, TX.    
  • Must continue to maintain CENTCOM Mod 13 and other deployment-related requirements for the Afghanistan theater of operations     
  • Must be able to receive and maintain a current/active Afghanistan visa 
  • Must be in possession of and maintain an appropriate-level current/active security clearance with eligibility to receive/maintain a NATO clearance for the duration of the deployment      
  • Must be willing to work and live in austere and hostile environments in Afghanistan, and understanding of the possibility to be further assigned to any location in Afghanistan, as allowed by the contract 
  • Must be willing and able to travel outside of protected areas via military convoys or MILAIR, and wear protective clothing and equipment, as required.  Force protection will be provided by authorized sources.   
  • Must have the demonstrated ability to communicate in English, both orally and in writing 
  • Must comply with all theater command policies, regulations, and General Orders 

    Desired: 

  • Previous OCONUS experience. (Prefer Afghanistan or Iraq)
  • Bachelor’s Degree. 
  • 10 years’ experience. 
  • Military Intelligence qualified; prefer aviation background
  • Prefer experience on BN/BDE staff and understand the MDMP concept
  • Understand ROE (Rules of Engagement)
  • The ability to obtain and maintain a Secret and NATO security clearance.
