Marine Engineer, Senior

Key Role:

Design, develop, and evaluate the construction and design of US Navy vessels and installation of ship system machinery and related equipment, including power supply, main and auxiliary propulsion, fuel systems, lubrication systems, seawater and fresh water systems, and heating and ventilating and air conditioning systems. Conduct analytical, environmental, operational, or performance studies to develop designs for products and test the feasibility of marine engines, equipment, and structures. Conduct environmental, operational, or performance tests on marine machinery and equipment. Design and provide oversight for testing, installation, and repair of marine apparatus and equipment. Lead and perform studies for launching, dry-docking, mooring, or towing of naval vessels. Lead and perform hull form and hydrodynamic performance assessments, including development of the hull form, resistance and powering, propulsion design and performance, development of model test plans, and observing and analyzing data from model tests or full-scale trials. 

Basic Qualifications:

-5+ years of experience in working with NAVSEA

-Experience with 3D ship design software, including AutoCAD and performing design concept studies and prototype and scale model development for ship and ship system design principles and practices

-Knowledge of key regulatory body rules, the DoD Acquisition process, including regulations, directives, and statutes, the Navy’s application of the DoD Acquisition process, including contracting and sea trials, and key Naval ship acquisition roles and organizations

-Ability to work independently or as part of a design team preparing drawings and other design documents, review the work of other engineers for accuracy and correctness, lead and collaborate with mixed teams comprised of government and industry personnel, and apply problem-solving techniques when faced with complex problems under uncertainty

-Active Secret clearance

-BA or BS degree in Architecture or Engineering

Additional Qualifications:

-Experience with maritime fuel systems, refrigeration systems (HVAC), compressed air systems, auxiliary shipboard systems, and piping systems

-Experience with Marine Gas Turbines and supporting equipment

-Experience with marine and ship piping systems design and engineering

-BS degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean, ME, Marine Engineering, or Systems Engineering or a closely related field preferred; MS degree in Naval Architecture, Ocean, ME, Marine Engineering, or Systems Engineering or a closely related field a plus

-DAU Certification and SNAME and ASNE Membership
