The Hardware Engineering Center (HWEC) is an engineering organization that focuses on RF and Opto-Mechanical product design, producibility, and mission assurance. It is a vital link in the integrated product development process that allows Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems to introduce reliable new products faster, better, and more economically.
The candidate will report to the RF & SMA Mechanical Department Manager fulfilling the Mechanical Engineering Section Manager role. The Section Manager is responsible for the success of the Section’s people and performance in accordance with SAS Vision, Values, Mission, and Goals. The priority of the Section Manager is to ensure that the Section delivers results by providing appropriate engineering resources for programs and initiatives led and/or supported by the Section. The Section Manager is responsible for the on-time and accurate delivery of the work products prepared by Section personnel. The Section Manager is also responsible for Section personnel performance and career development, and for support of HWEC initiatives.
The Section Manager is also responsible for contributing to the performance of the Hardware Engineering Center through program performance, customer relationships and product solutions. The Section Manager is tasked to ensure that the Section is properly using the established processes within the Integrated Product Development System and for measuring and improving these processes. The position requires broad based technical knowledge and the ability to lead and review designs and analyses. The ability to lead engineering investigations and direct troubleshooting is essential. Demonstrated experience as a hardware task lead, knowledge of Earned Value Management, and experience preparing both technical and cost proposals is required. Proposal execution (technical and resource management) in a leadership role is a critical function of the Section Manager.
The candidate will have a leadership role in support of the design activities leading major design efforts or multiple smaller design teams. The candidate must have the capability to solve design problems by thinking out-of-the-box when the situation calls for it. The individual will act independently, guided only by broad engineering instructions and objectives. The person must be able to make administrative decisions on technical issues affecting major mechanical segments of the organization.
Job assignments may include working on programs/projects in El Segundo CA, Tucson AZ, or Marlborough MA for which periodic travel for meetings and collaboration may be required.
Other special assignment duties not specifically stated herein may be required. Examples include functional or business area reorganization participation, special topic workshop participation or leadership, or technical roadmap development participation or leadership.
