Mission/Vision Statement

Securing the Nation Bit by Byte and Addressing the Threats of Tomorrow, Today

Mission: Discover, demonstrate and secure innovative nuclear energy solutions, other clean energy options and critical infrastructure.

Vision: INL will change the world's energy future and secure our critical infrastructure.

Responsibilities

Idaho National Laboratory (INL) is seeking a Wireless Communications MAC-Layer R&D Engineer for the Wireless Research & Development group.

The INL Wireless R&D group is in the process of developing a custom proprietary wireless communication system based on a novel spread spectrum technique. Initial concept has been completed with standard COTS (Commercial off the Shelf) hardware and software. INL now wishes to move the communication system onto hardware and software that is closer to actual deployment. The work consists of understanding the existing software architecture followed by developing the software code for medium access control (MAC) layer functions to ensure accommodation for multi-node communication networks.

The MAC-Layer Engineer is expected to conduct investigations and evaluations of current platform software architecture for both Linux and RTOS operating systems. The MAC-Layer Engineer will review the current design for a scalable multi-node MAC layer and coordinate findings with the INL team. Collaborate with the development team to update/refine the scalable multi-node MAC layer architecture as needed to satisfy the system requirements. Will be the primary engineer for implementing the MAC design responsible for verifying operation for the entire spectrum of customer use cases.

Document and train the INL team on the MAC implementation and as-built design. Additional tasks and assignments will be given to the employee by the Program Manager and the Technical Lead of the program throughout the process. Collaborate with the development team to refine, and finalize the system requirements. These requirements will be based on the current platform capabilities as well as anticipated future system capabilities.
