Linux Cluster Software Integration Consultant

 About the Linux Cluster Software Integration Consultant

HPE Pointnext is currently seeking highly qualified and motivated candidates for a role as a Linux Cluster Software Integration Consultant in the United States. Position will include 75-100% overnight travel on a nationwide basis. As a result, position can be based anywhere in the US that is close to a major airport.

In this role, you will provide High Performance Computing (HPC) technology consulting to external customers and internal project teams, and provide technical support and/or leadership in the creation and delivery of HPE HPC technology solutions designed to meet customers’ business needs and, consequently, be responsible for understanding customers’ businesses.

As their trusted advisor, you will create and maintain effective customer relationships so as to ensure customer satisfaction. You will also maintain knowledge of leading-edge HPC technologies and of the industry/market domain in general. In addition, you will actively contribute to the company’s HPC solutions portfolio by providing information ranging from technical knowledge to methodologies based on experience gained from customer projects, in order to shape the technical direction and technical strategies both within the organization and for external customers.


In this role, you will:

  • integrate Linux software stack solutions for High Performance Computing (HPC) environments (supercomputers)
  • be responsible for software compatibility and regression testing of software configuration changes
  • manage software integration of scientific Linux Clusters
  • apply knowledge of Linux Cluster architectures, performing HPC design activities and deploying HPC configurations
  • provide the technical direction required to resolve complex Linux Cluster problems to ensure the on-time delivery of solutions that meet customer expectations; at times, you may need to develop new methods to apply to specific situations
  • work with peers outside the immediate organization to define and characterize complex technology or process problems and/or develop new solutions, while working independently to drive technical problems to a solution
  • provide counsel and mentoring to team members, and extend teamwork beyond projects to other practices and cross-Global Business Units (GBUs)
  • maintain a network of customers at senior levels and revisit them regularly
  • create and support sales activities, including assuming overall leadership for sales activities for specific aspects, and ensure owners of activities have clear direction
  • perform other duties assigned


This position requires extensive experience in the software integration of scientific Linux Clusters. Highly qualified candidates will have strong theoretical knowledge of Linux Cluster architectures and the ability to solve complex Linux Cluster problems.

Education and Experience Required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering or other relevant discipline
  • Advanced degree a plus
  • 8+ years of professional experience
  • 5+ years’ relevant experience with Linux Clusters
  • Without a degree, an additional 3 years’ professional experience for a total of 11+ years

Knowledge and SkillsRequired

  • Strong understanding of supercomputer architectures and concepts
  • Strong technical knowledge of Linux operating systems and computer networking
  • Experience  with the installation and configuration of HPE Cluster Management Utility (CMU)
  • Strong understanding of HPC file systems and storage devices
  • Experience troubleshooting InfiniBand network fabrics
  • Able to integrate HPC software stack solutions
  • Effective verbal and written language skills
  • Able to work effectively on teams, as well as work independently

Knowledge and Skills Desired

  • Experience with Linux cluster resource allocation, job scheduling, MPI communications, and cluster monitoring
  • Experience with any or all of the following technologies/products:  Moab, LSF, PBS Pro, Torque, Slurm, Nagios, Lustre, GPFS, MPICH, and OpenMPI
  • Active U.S. Government security clearance of Secret or higher is desirable
