SOS International (SOSi) is seeking a Spanish Linguist to support our federal law enforcement customer. The LEAD Linguists (LL) is responsible for performing all Analytic Linguist’s Essential Job Duties as described below and have additional oversight and case management responsibilities. The LL is the focal point of communications between the SOSi Program Management Office (PMO), DEA representatives, and supporting Analytic linguists. The LL is instrumental in the overall case management and everyday performance of all part-time On-Call (PTOC) linguists by monitoring and “Spot Checking” their work throughout their shift to include: monitoring, gisting or summarizing calls, translating, transcribing, aptitude, behavior, teamwork, availability, responsiveness, professionalism, timeliness, work quality, work quantity, work efficiency. The information collected will be used to create site specific, individual and overall SOSi performance metrics.  These metrics enhance our ability to understand nuances, address, develop and implement corrective actions where required, as well as, duplicate those practices producing positive results where applicable.


  • To listen to or read foreign language communications, lawfully intercepted, and perform immediate verbal summaries, then subsequent written or typed summaries, into the English language
  • Transcribe: To render the spoken word of a language into the written form of the same language, then save the result on a Government-owned computer storage device and/or in printed format. For the purposes of this contract, the transcription will be predominately spoken Spanish to written English, but may include, to a lesser degree, other languages
  • Translate: To render the spoken or written word of one language into the written form of another language, then save the results on a Government-owned computer storage device or other storage media and/or in printed format. The translation will be predominantly spoken or written Spanish to spoken or written English, but may include, to a lesser degree, other lanuages to English. Note: The register, style, and tone of the source language should be conserved
  • Interpret: To translate orally either consecutively or simultaneously from one language to another
  • Validate: A review conducted by someone other than the individual performing the original translation, transcription, or the quality control review of the specified original work in order to attest to the accuracy of the final work
  • Summarize: To provide a typed, concise and accurate synopsis of oral or written communications intercept that contains the identity of the speakers or correspondents, and all locations and events mentioned that pertain to the subject of the communication
  • Deconfliction Analysis: The process of checking for target numbers and/or devices or other contacted telephone numbers and/or devices in one investigative case on the system having contact with target numbers and/or devices or other contacted telephone numbers and/or devices in a separate investigative case on the system
  • Voice Library: Library consisting of voice exemplar references where persons have identified themselves or been identified during a phone conversation. The exemplar is used for future voice comparisons
  • Source Data: The class of data requiring linguist services. Classes of data are verbal or written. Verbal Source Data typically is derived from audio or video recordings. Written Source Data is typically derived from official documents, transcripts, emails, maps, etc
  • Minimization: Legal instruction given by the Court or Prosecutor to the Analytic Linguist which identifies the types of “privileged” communications that the Analytic Linguists may not listen to and/or capture electronically
  • Understands and complies with Court regulations concerning minimization procedures and may attend trainings on 
  • Serve a liaison between the DEA representative, SOSi PMO, and PTOC personnel (Analytic linguists)
  • Lead team of Analytic Linguists (ALs) supporting on-going operations
  • Monitor Analytic Linguist’s performance
    • Provide Corrective Action feedback and Memorandum (after approval from PMO) documenting Analytic Linguist’s performance (if applicable).AL is not meeting performance expectations
    • Provide additional training to assist AL improve their performance
    • Maintain written records improved performance achievements or lack thereof

      • U.S. Government Security Clearance
      • Minimum of three years’ of translation experience; however, a Bachelor's degree from an accredited U.S. institution in lieu of experience may be accepted
      • Possess good credit and be able to pass a criminal background investigation
      • Must agree to submit to random polygraph testing
      • Computer literacy and ability to type a minimum of 40 WPM
      • Excellent command of English and the ability to produce clear and concise oral and written work
      • Proficiency with a variety of storage media (audio cassettes, video cassettes, digital media)
      • Understanding of slang and colloquial expressions in the source language, and ability to translate them into English
      • Must pass oral and a language evaluations in both the source language and English


      • Normal office working conditions
      • Requires periods of non-traditional hours including consecutive nights or weekends when necessary
      • May require ability to lift/and or move objects or packages of up to 25 lbs.
