For more than 60 years, the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratory (LLNL) has applied science and technology to make the world a safer place.

We have an opening for an experienced Laser Physicist to independently develop, research, design, analyze, model, test, and field advanced laser technology and systems. You will collaborate with an interdisciplinary team developing and deploying state-of-the art high intensity, high energy, short pulse laser systems for DOE and LLNL mission needs. This position is in the National Ignition Facility and Photon Science (NIF&PS) Principal Associate Directorate.

This position will be filled at either the SES.3 or SES.4 level depending on qualifications. Additional job responsibilities (outlined below) will be assigned if you are selected at the higher level.

Essential Duties
- Collaborate in an interdisciplinary team that researches, designs, develops, integrates and fields energetic laser systems, high peak power lasers and high average power laser technologies, incorporating essential new physics and new technologies to support evolving missions.
- Conduct experiments in the fields of short pulse, high power and energy laser physics, laser secondary source generation.
- Execute and interpret laser experiments that test new physics and modeling capability in collaboration with laboratory scientists and engineers.
- Define and prioritize tasks and goals to assure that programmatic needs are addressed in a timely and efficient manner.
- Prepare and provide technical presentations and publications for internal and external audiences.
- Provide tangible input in the development of broad research/project vision and provide technical input to small multidisciplinary work teams.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
In Addition at the SES.4 Level
- Support, lead system designs and apply system engineering principles to a wide variety of laser designs and analysis projects.
- Research novel approaches to develop operational, system, and subsystem solutions as needed and present the results at design reviews.
- Set broad project vision and strategy and influence technical direction for self and others, while providing technical and intellectual leadership on research and development projects.

Qualifications
