Job Title:  Knowledge Management Specialist

Location:   Arlington, VA


ALEX - Alternative Experts is now hiring a talented Knowledge Management Specialist (KMS) for an immediate opening in support of the defense community.  As a Knowledge management Specialist, you will be responsible for reviewing and updating current KM/BP policies and draft KM/BP strategies as well as making recommendations for changes and realignment with DOD instructions, Federal law, industry standards, external best practices, and other guidance.  This involves providing recommendations, development, and maintenance of KM programs, including goals, objectives, mission, vision, and implementation plans.  Specific duties include but are not limited to:

  • Creating, designing, and maintaining web pages, workflows, sites, and solutions
  • Assisting with design and fundamental management of portal sites
  • Providing technical guidance, advice, and assistance based upon policies and best practices
  • Portal management to ensure current, relevant, and accurate information
  • Monitoring SharePoint functionality to ensure workflows are employed correctly
  • Performing ongoing research to determine SharePoint’s current and future capabilities
  • Working with stakeholders regarding the migration of SharePoint sites when necessary
  • Providing end-user and owner support by composing training material and leveraging available resources
  • Coordinating requirements for developing training materials with government personnel
  • Updating and developing reference guides, computer based tutorials, briefs, and other training materials
  • Conducting classroom and desk-side training in support of Knowledge Management initiatives
  • Enhancing the collaborative capture, sharing, management, and re-use of the staff's knowledge assets
  • Collaborating to identify requirements and opportunities for improved collaboration and productivity
  • Creating Knowledge Management (KM) processes and Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) as needed
  • Strategic communication on new processes and updates to existing enterprise information systems
  • Engaging stakeholder communities to ensure successful implementation of KM processes and procedures
  • Attending KM meetings, conferences, and seminars  as needed to advocate KM processes and programs
  • Providing feedback to the government and making it available to KM team and users as appropriate
  • Developing a customer feedback process to recommend and implement KM changes
  • Drafting messages for dissemination to KMOs in support of Knowledge Management activities
  • Recommending communication initiatives to strengthen awareness of knowledge sharing capabilities
  • Coordinating with other KM staff across the organizations to ensure optimal use of resources



  • Applicants must have and be able to maintain a Top Secret level security clearance at minimum. 
  • 5 or more years of Knowledge Management (KM) experience
  • Knowledge of KM and Elements of Change Management
  • Bachelors Degree in relevant field, or Associates Degree plus 5 years of military experience
  • Excellent interpersonal and electronic communication skills


  • Certified Information Professional (CIP), Knowledge Management (KM) Cert, or equivalent
  • Knowledge of DoD headquarters and executive leadership engagement
